Robyn knows David can do many things, but giving himself a black eye? Thatâs got to be pushing it⊠right?
âHello!â David almost shouted as he came up being his girlfriend. He wasnât expecting Robynâs reaction, as she jumped and turned around harshly - pushing David back.
She covered her mouth suddenly, âoh, David. Iâm so sorry. You startled me!â
âI should have learnt from past experience,â he brushed off. âAt least I wasnât holding an ice-cream this time!â
Unexpectedly, that made Robyn look even more ashamed. âShould I have not said that? Iâve said something wrong, havenât I?â
To his surprise, she smiled and started to laugh, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing his lips briefly. She pulled away and stroked a thumb over his cheek. âDonât ever change.â
âWhy would I do that?â he asked confusedly.Â
She smiled again and withdrew, holding his hand. âI love you, you know that? I really, really love you.â
âMe too,â he responded, smiling just as broadly as Robyn. He was so lucky to have her as a girlfriend, and was glad Robyn sometimes let things slipped. He remembered the day he found out Robyn liked him. It was a fond memory and he didnât think heâd ever forget. Of course, he had to thank Louise for it. Robyn had talked to her about David, and Louise had taken it upon herself to inform David of Robynâs attraction. It was one of the few times David appreciated Louiseâs gossip.
âDavid, youâre with me,â Dylan called, and David pecked Robyn on her cheek before hurrying off.
âSheâll be okay, wonât she?â Greg asked, obviously worried about his daughter.
David nodded, âit looks worse than it is, I can assure you. Itâs only a small cut and it should heal quite soon. Youâre lucky she fell on grass⊠and onto your hand!â
Greg smiled at the reference to his own injured wrist.
âDaddy,â Luna called. âCan you tie my hair up now?â
Greg smiled but shook his head. âI canât, Luna. Look â my wrist is hurt. Itâs got a bandage on.â He showed his daughter his sprained wrist, and David knew what was coming. âYou wouldnât be able to do it, would you?â he said, directing his question towards David.
âErmâŠâ
âMaybe Mummy can do it when she comes, Luna. It shouldnât be too long now,â he told his daughter.
âNo, itâs alright. I can do it,â David said, though he was extremely unsure if he could. It had been a long time since heâd ever done a childâs hair, and even when he did, his daughter alw â his daughterâŠ, that was something he didnât want to think about. âHave you got a hairband?â
Luna nodded and held out her purple bobbled elastic and David took it gently. It looked adorable.
âHow do you want it?â
âI like the way Daddy does it.â
David looked questioningly towards Greg, who answered his gaze almost instantly. âShe likes it low but quite tight.â
She liked her hair like that tooâŠ
He went behind Luna and brought her hair to the back of her head. He stretched the hairband around her ponytail with more force than heâd intended, and in a second, it snapped. David jumped back with shock, his hand stinging from where the elastic pinned back, and he accidentally brought his hand back with such force it collided with his right eye â right beside the bridge of his nose.
He gasped more with the shock rather than anything else. Luna started to giggle as she turned around to see what was happening. Just the joy on her face made David smile too.
âLast time I checked, youâre supposed to treat the patients. Not hit yourself in the eye.â
Even Dylanâs comment couldnât stop David from smiling.
âIâm just going toâŠâ David trailed off, rushing out of the cubicle but not missing Dylan offering to tie Lunaâs hair up with her spare elastic.
He found Robyn in the staffroom, looking through one of her magazines. He stomped loudly to her side and she turned around with a confused expression on her face.
He shrugged. âI didnât want you to be startled.â
âAh, I love yo â what happened to your face?â She dumped her magazine on the table-top and stood up, pressing her fingers around his eye. âIt looks like itâs starting to bruise.â
âYes, about that. I might be starting to get a bit of a black eye.â
âHow?â she asked, and David didnât fail to miss the concern in her voice.
 âI managed to⊠somehow hit myself.â
Robyn bit her lip, âyou gave yourself a black eye?â Then she started laughing so hard, David could see tears of happiness form in her eyes. He stood patiently, watching her with a certain fondness. âThat is the best thing Iâve heard all week!â she said once sheâd calmed down enough to get out a full sentence. âApart from you saying you loved me. Of course.â
He grinned.
âOkay, let me see.â
He leaned into her touch, wincing as she pressed particularly hard. âThatâs going to be bruised by tomorrow, but it shouldnât be too bad. How did you do it, anyway?â
David sighed, âI was trying to tie my patientâs hair up but I mustâve stretched the elastic too much and it pinged back and snapped. Then I accidentally whacked myselfâŠâ he smiled. âThat sounds ridiculous, doesnât it?â
âYes, but thatâs what I love about you.â
She brought his head towards her and they shared a soft kiss.
A/N Yeah, you know my⊠rocky relationship with romance writing. And Robyn, oh my, Robyn. How do I imagine you saying things? Also I couldnât think of a title so that was the best I had. And thereâs a little dramatic licence used because how does one even punch themselves?Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!
For @casual-laurie. Hurt/Comfort Rovid. Also romance really isnât my strong suit in writing and it always gets really cheesy so brace yourself.
Robyn is too shy to express her feelings towards David, but when something happens, she realises life really is too short to wait.
âHeâs actually really sweet,â Robyn said as Louise made a doubtful face.
âHow can he be sweet when he never talks?â
âJust because he doesnât talk to you, doesnât mean he doesnât talk to me,â she said, crossing her arms and almost daring Louise to come back with someone else.
âOkay then, what does he talk about? Someone like that... I know his type.â Louise raised her eyebrows and started to laugh. âActing all innocent until theyâre alone-â
âEw, no Louise. David isnât like that.â Robyn looked towards the ceiling. âHeâs smart and funny and sensitive â but in a good way â and he makes great cake.â
ââLemon Misery?ââÂ
Max laughed from behind them. âSheâs got a good point, you know, sis.â
Now she was starting to feel targeted. Just because she happened to like David... and now her friend and her brother were on her case. âAnd what point is that?â She unfolded her arms, but realised that could be a sign of defeat. She folded them again.
âHeâs not exactly... your type, is he?â commented Max, smirking.
âWhat would you know about my type? I happen to like David a lot, and I would appreciate it if you would both respect my feelings,â she said, frankly proud for sticking up for herself.
âOoooh, touchy,â Louise and Max teased, both giggling when Robyn turned her back on them.
âCome on then, how much do you like him?â Mad asked seriously, and Robyn turned quickly.
âLoads. Oh my gosh, Max. Heâs brilliant!â she exclaimed, feeling like a child again when she had the urge to clap her hands excitedly.
Louise sighed and walked off, while Max smiled. âAnd what does he feel about you?â
Robyn faltered âyeah, well, I donât actually know that part.â
âOh.â
âYes, exactly. But, Iâll ask him. Itâs a simple question-â
âNo, itâs not,â Max laughed.
She grinned broadly, though, as soon she spotted David strolling down the stairs.Â
She heard Max whisper in her ear, âitâs good seeing you happy, sis,â and her smile widened. She heard Maxâs footsteps as he walked away and drew her full attention to David.
âDavid!â she called, eyes brightening when he looked up, first looking around and then eyes finally landing on Robyn. He smiled... but then it happened... it happened so fast.
She watched in horror, body frozen, as David stumbled. His body toppled, head hitting the steps and making a cracking noise that played over and over in Robynâs head â sickening her. His scream echoed around the ED making all fall silent. When his limp body finally made contact with the ground, his scream stopped and he was silent. Blood appeared on the floor.
Right by his head.
It was a blur all around her. People were just shapes, flitting and flickering. Sounds were muffled, peopleâs mouths moving too fast and peopleâs hands touching David, helping him and making sure he was alright. Doing what Robyn should be doing. Her feet were stuck to the ground, she was unable to do anything but stare.
A hand descended on her shoulder and it brought her back to reality.
She could hear properly, see properly and understand what everyone was saying.
âNurse Miller!â Connie said with a raised voice. âAre you just going to stand there or are you going to do your job?â
Robyn tried to reply but her mouth felt dry.Â
âWith respect, Mrs Beauchamp,â Louise started, and Robyn realised it was her hand she could feel on her shoulder, âRobyn is far too close to David to deal with this.â
Connie looked temporarily shocked but then seemed to regain her composure. âThen can you remove her from here... please?â
Robyn felt Louiseâs arm snake around her shoulder and guide her somewhere. Her vision was now clouded with tears and her feet were walking without her guiding them. âH-heâs going t-to die,â she blurted, starting to shake uncontrollably. âItâs m-my fault...â
She was guided onto something soft and realised it was a sofa in the staffroom. âNo, Robyn. Donât you dare think like that.â
âI-I called his name... my fault...â she started to sob, quite sobs at first but they became louder and harsher, the tears pouring down her face. Louise brought her into a hug, and just the simple act of Louise showing so much care for her by hugging her made her calm slightly.
Robyn was resting against Louise, her tears were still falling but she was calmer and more composed than she had been. The door opened and Robyn shot up. The action made her lean to the side as she was overcome by a wave of dizziness, but it passed a moment later and she looked desperately at Connie.
âHeâs going to be okay,â she stated, the hint of a smile playing on her face. âHeâs got concussion and a few broken bones, but heâll be fine with rest.â
Robyn almost fell back onto the sofa with relief. âCan I see him?â she asked hesitantly.
Connie nodded, âof course.â
She took small steps as she entered HDC. Almost as if she was too afraid to walk fast in case she tripped and knocked a machine or something.
âRobyn!â smiled David, reaching out a hand and a bandaged wrist to her.
She felt tears on her cheeks and wiped them away hastily. âIâm sorry,â she replied brokenly, taking Davidâs hand gently and stroking his wrist.Â
His forehead creased in confusion. âSorry? What are you sorry for?â
âI shouldnât have distracted you while you were on the stairs.â
He shook his head bandaged head slightly, and Robyn realised that even that simple movement caused him pain. âIt was an accident. I wasnât looking where I was putting my feet.â
âI nearly lost you, David! I don't know what Iâd have done if-â she stopped suddenly, realising what she was giving away.
David seemed to detect a change in her and gripped her hand tighter. He leaned forward, and despite the pain showing on his face, he didnât give up. âI donât know what Iâd have done if Iâd never saw you again,â he whispered, smiling cheekily.
Now it was Robynâs turn to be confused. âYou mean...?â
âEven if I had a million hearts, Robyn, I would still feel the same way about you with every single one.â
She smiled widely.
âNow can you do me a favour?â
Robyn nodded.
âIâm in quite a lot of pain, so...â
âOh, right,â she said, and helped David sit back against the pillows. Her hand brushed over his cheek lightly and she softly kissed his forehead. âI love you, David Hide. With a million of my hearts.â
A/N This is the best I can do, but my best isn't good enough really. It's quite crap but I hope you enjoyed it anyway. I think they're all a bit OOC, but especially Robyn. I need more practise in writing them, and writing romance! I guess I lean more towards brotherly angst and hurt writing than romance stories, but I need all the practise I can get and this is part of the learning process! <3 xxx
