I have lost the simple ability to cook portions of food to feed a small group of people. 

The Hof to the west of Kandersteg VIllage - I miss that place so much.

During Training for the Winter Season (yeah, no snow at this point), our Patrol managed to achieve it - we were s happy! The other Patrol, on the other hand...

A little backstory: I purchased a new set of good brand hiking boots from major outdoor retailer in Australia back in the middle of the year, before I went to Canada to do some hiking with “seven bloody idiots” (who are all very dear to me). No problems - I found what I wanted, tested them out,  purchased them, broke them in and took them with me.

During the hike, the heels started peeling off the shoes. If it was only one, then I wouldn’t be too worried. But both were doing the same thing, so this seems like a defective set of boots, or I’m doing something really wrong with them.

When I purchased them, a Rover was working in the store, and encouraged me to return them under warranty, so I did.

Going in today, I showed them to the manager and they asked what I did with them - the kinds of conditions that I took them through. I explained that I used them quite a bit, and talked about the expedition in Canada, and how it was back-country conditions, etc.

I was then told that “these shoes shouldn’t be used with a hiking pack that weighs more than 15kg.”

Ok, let’s admit it. This is a thing.

While the IST are still awaiting our positions for World Moot in Iceland (suspenseful music here?), the Expedition allocations came out today - yay! That means that you know more about what you are going to be doing for Moot!

But many people are now realising that they didn’t get what they requested. Maybe it’s not as fun as what you wanted. Maybe not as challenging as you were hoping for. Maybe it’s going to be too physically challenging for what you can do. 

But keep in mind that with ~5.000 participants going to this event, it’s a big undertaking for them to organise, and not everyone is going to be happy with their allocation.

However, keep in mind that this isn’t something that your National Contingents can alter - they don’t really get any say as such to what expedition you do; they only sent in the preferences that you listed.

No matter who you are allocated with, you’re going to make heaps of new and amazing friends, from all walks of life! From personal experience at other Scout events, I promise you that this will happen.

However, if it is an issue like you can’t do it because it’s too physically challenging for your ability level, you can try emailing the World Moot team to see what they may be able to do. I have no idea what they might do. But with many concerned Rovers around the world looking at their inboxes today, you may not be able to change your allocation.
