nah i never mind talking about my fave, thanks for asking :P the tl;dr is, grey-asexual, charlie is the grey (and, assuming bwe canon mostly follows the later history, eventually teddy is part of the grey too)

baseline he’s definitely SOMEWHERE on the asexuality spectrum for me, and further to the no-sexual-attraction-ever-at-all end than not. he has zero interest in any female characters the way the other unattached gangsters do: he’s not given any storylines where he has any real contact with women in the first four seasons, which i can acknowledge is a function more of him not being centered until s4 than a deliberate choice to write him one way or the other, but they showed charlie sleeping with a random prostitute during the heroin plotline, if they really wanted to they could’ve shoehorned a girl on meyer’s lap at some point in tampa or showed a girl leaving D&W or something, but instead he’s all business all the time except when charlie’s around. and despite finally being in contact with NUMEROUS attractive, often scantily-clad women in s5 he never once looks interested in any of them:

he looks pissed off more than interested when the lady in havana has her hand basically on his junk rubbing his thigh and is… not with her at night, when one would presume that the banging would happen;

he stares at the floor and checks his watch instead of even glancing at any of the women around him while walking through the whorehouse before he finds tonino;

we all know the two girls at the end of friendless child are just there to make the way meyer touches charlie’s arm and the way they smile at each other look Less Gay and both charlie and meyer don’t actually touch either of them, they just give them their arms instead of putting their arms around the girls’ waists or anything;

and when the lady filing charlie’s nails walks off in eldorado, if you watch, as soon as she crosses in front of the camera, benny very intently stares at her ass as she leaves, but meyer’s eyes are on charlie the entire time.

he also never gives elevator eyes to any of the male characters, who he’s around more frequently—the easiest target to have made meyer read as attracted-to-men would’ve been jimmy [since apparently people find m*chael p*tt hot, i don’t get it but whatever] and i do think he likes jimmy, the same way you like a dopey new puppy pretending it’s a big dog, until it starts chewing your shoes and ruins your day, but none of the looks he ever shoots jimmy look like attraction to me. just amusement and exasperation. there’s plenty of other attractive men on this show that he could’ve given some look of interest in, but he never looks at anyone with anything approaching appreciation. and then there’s the coy smile-and-look-down in home, the shoulder touches in ourselves alone AND margate sands, BOTH gentle arm touches in friendless child, the concerned gaze in blue bell boy, the LIP LICKING IN TWO BOATS AND A LIFEGUARD, it’s straight up only charlie he ever looks at with anything even approaching attraction, and i know i’m shipper trash, but charlie is pretty clearly attracted to other people at various points in the show as well as having the same kinds of moments more frequently with meyer. so i think it’s telling that meyer just doesn’t really… look at ANYONE else with anything approaching attraction. it’s not just “no women so maybe he’s gay,” it’s “no one else ever.” so. ace-except-for-charlie.

as for specific identification, personally i do waffle between grey-a and demi, especially with charlie, because the fact that he trusts charlie and only charlie to understand him, in ways no one else can manage, and them having that deep understanding and knowledge of each other’s thoughts and emotions has a lot to do with why i think charlie is basically It for meyer. the reason i tend to land on grey instead of demi is because i do assume bwe canon follows the history as it goes on, for the most part, and i think he does have genuine attraction to teddy, after he and anna* divorce, but i don’t think anyone else ever reaches the same level of emotional connection and investment he and charlie have. so grey makes more sense if you factor in the future existence of teddy, but if we’re sticking to just the bwe canon time frame, i could make equal arguments for grey or demi. …that said, i don’t think he gives a shit either way, internally. he’s not the introspective type, the terminology wouldn’t have been available in bwe canon timeframes and mores in terms of being open about sexual attraction have SIGNIFICANTLY changed since then, and i think even if it’s a modern au we’re talking about, the hypersexualization of popular culture now would get to him more but i don’t think he’d be torn up about being less sexual than society at large or his social circle. he is how he is and if anyone has a problem with it that’s on them, not him.
