And I remembered all the Everett Ross x Stephen Strange fanfics where Stephen travels through the multiverse and discover that in many universes he and Everett are predetermined to be together. Like soulmates who seek each other without knowing why. Like, John and Sherlock have already been together in other places and in other contexts and no matter what, they belong to each other.

Stephen still being in love with Christine but not really having time to get back with her as he’s Sorcerer Supreme but then he meets Agent Everett Ross. He knows so little about the man except the man has been been tasked with introducing himself and reporting on the Sorcerer Supreme. The more they meet, the more of a team they become. Even Wong likes him. He seems to keep up with any threats that appear when he happens to be around. Soon, his thoughts are not just clouded by his duty and his failed relationship with Christine but with his new colleague, Everett Kenneth Ross. When all hell breaks loose, his first action is to say goodbye to Everett. He doesn’t know how long he’ll be gone but he knows it’s gonna be for a while. He portals to the agents destination and tells him everything. He tells Agent Ross that he’s taken a liking to him and if or when he comes back, he’d like to elaborate more on it.(he knows that he’s failed with Christine because of all the things he couldn’t say or do. He’s not willing to do that again and miss this chance with Everett) unexpectedly, the agent pulls him in and gives him a kiss on the cheek and wishes him luck with a smile. Strange knows at that moment that he won’t be able to see the man for quite some time and touches the hands that are holding his face. 5 years later… Stephen reappears and after the war. He finally reunited with the older man who seems to have aged and looks worse for wear but still doing his job. They embrace while Everett has tears in his eyes and Stephen finally does what they both wanted. He kisses the agent and after a few seconds of that, they part. Ross tells Stephen he missed him and Stephen tells the shorter man he’s sorry. The agent replies there’s nothing to be sorry about. He practically saved the world. They promise to each other to make time off and to have a proper day to themselves. (+bonus scene) Stephen and Christine meet up. Christine tells Strange she’s getting married and he congratulates her. He tells her about Everett and she tells him to bring him to the wedding. He’d like to meet him. He tells her he’ll try.
