Rosa had been frequenting Myst’s Bakery for so long that she barely remembered what it was like not to see him every day. Him, being Luca, the barista. The really really hot barista. The girl didn’t really know when her crush had started, nor did she know when he’d started calling her princess, but she didn’t think she wanted it to stop. Luca was a funny one, funny in that he was a mystery, and Rosa loved mysteries. From what she knew, the boy was probably an art major. Rosa had never asked, but the boy was always in black, whether at work or not, he was always drawing when the shop was empty, and come on, that hair, and the tattoos? He couldn’t not be an art major. But that smoking-
“Bonjour Princess, What can I get you today?’
As she was revising what she knew about the boy, she’d unknowingly reached the counter. The girl was deep in her thoughts that she really hadn’t noticed until she was rudely jerked back into the real world by a familiar voice.
“AHH!” Rosa looks up quickly, eyes wide, face flushing as she realizes what had happened. Oh dear.
“Yes… A?... A what..?” The boy grins. Damn his grin, and his pearly white teeth, and his dimples-
“You Shush now, I was thinking, and you scared me, it’s not very polite.” The Italian girl pouts, hoping her hair hides her blush.
“Ohh, you were thinking. Was that hard?” Rosa gasps, and despite hearing the teasing tone of his voice she leans in closer and punches his shoulder over the counter. Lightly, of course, but the proximity allowed her to smell something on him other than cakes and coffee. Smoke. Again.
“Well, I never-....” She pauses, “Luca… Is that smoke…?! Again?....” Was that a sheepish look on his face?! Oh no he did Not. “Did you even read the pamphlet I gave you?!”
“Princess-...”
“Don’t you ‘Princess’ me! Do you know how bad smoking is for your health? Increased risk of strokes, brain damage, you get Yellow teeth, there’s tooth decay, not to mention bad breath which would be a loss, because your teeth are great... and Oh god, loss of taste and smell? You work in a coffee shop? With no taste or smell, how boring would that be!” The girl was on a roll now, and as the sweet little bakery was quite empty, there was no one waiting behind her for their turn, which was good because Rosa was nowhere near done.
Unbeknownst to her, the boy she was ranting at was slowly blushing red, watching the beautiful girl in front of him worry about his health.
“-And you could get cancer, in your nose, lips, tongue, and mouth and the whites of your eyes could go yellow, which be a shame because your eyes are so pretty-”
“Princess”
“- And Then there’s the obvious damage to your Lungs, and-”
“Rosa”
“Chronic bronchitis is a thing, really ugly too, and like.. premature aging! That sucks too! And this was all in the pamphlet-”
“I don’t smoke!” Luca manages to say over her, loudly.
The girl falls silent, blinking a couple times at the extremely flustered boy in front of her.
“I-... What?”
Luca laughs lightly and runs a hand over his face and through his hair.
“I-... I don’t smoke…?”
“Yes you do? You smell like smoke..? Every time I come here…?”
The boy rubs at the back of his neck, looking away, allowing his hair to hide his red face. Rosa was quite confused, frowning some.
“I-... I’m.. Part dragon…?”
The girl blinked a couple times, tilting her head to the side.
“You’re... Part Dragon?”
Luca looks about, takes a deep breath, turns his face away and blows a small amount of fire to the side, tail peeking out from under the counter.
“…. Voilà…?”
Rosa blinks again and slowly starts to blush herself.
“I-...You…..” She’s shocked into a stunned pause before bursting out. “ Oh my god I am so so so sorry!” Her eyes are wide, and her hand gestures grow a little wild. “All those rants… and the pamphlets! I- You could have told me, oh my god…”
Luca blinks and bursts out laughing, stunning the girl into silence.
“You’re so cute…” He lets out another soft chuckle. “I’ll consider forgiving you-”
“Ah Grazie! Thank you!” She interrupts.
“Ah-..IF” Luca raises an eyebrow, before scribbling something quickly onto a napkin.
Rosa stops, startled. “If…?”
The boy smiles, nods, and pushes the paper towards her. “If…. You’d go on a date with me…? I mean you don’t have to if you really don’t want to but-...” He trails off, his embarrassment catching up with him. “It’s my number.” He adds, seeing her stare at the paper silently. Looking up again, Rosa nods some, before biting her lip and grabbing both another napkin and the pen from Luca’s hands, scribbling something down too.
When done and with a face as brilliant as a tomato Rosa takes the paper, nods once more and makes her way out of the bakery with her usual order.
When she leaves, the barista - who had secretly been crushing on a regular, overly concerned customer- adds a number into his phone with a faint smile, and lets out a happy, if smoky, sigh.

(Based of that one scene in Descendants of the Sun)
If they argue (which doesnt happen often because letthembefloof) they'll probably both of them end up leaving the apartment flat thingy to cool down. And Rosa is probably the first one back and when Luca's not there she just starts calling him endlessly to apologise and he just doesn't pick up. When he does (finally) pick up Rosa happies and apologises right away but Luca doesn't say anything so she just starts talking about what she saw and stuff when she was out and when he tells him to come back safe Luca probably just mumbles 'sorry'? Or something and Rosa happies because she knows he's not mad anymore (he hasn't been mad for ages. Kid probably just doesn't know how to act. awkward munchkin) and when he comes back she just tackles him in a hug
basically just after they’re married and while doing dishes or something Rosa basically just goes “Oh by the way I’m pregnant.” Literally none of that big fancy reveal stuff like on the internet, she just says it like most people would say “oh, we need more eggs.”
And Luca either drops the plates he’s drying and just stares at her or he’s like "Okay. Should I book an appointment with your doctor?” And just continues drying dishes
acts like it’s so normal the babies might as well be groceries
THEY PROBABLY DONT SEE IT AS A BIG DEAL AND DONT TELL ANYONE UNTIL THEY NOTICE IT FIRST
“Oh, Rosa, you seem a bit um… rounder than usual. Is there something you want to tell us???”
“Well, she is pregnant, of course she’s round.”
They Tell Cam and cam makes a bigger deal than the two of them put together.
Crying and everything
“I’m going to be an auntt”
Luca just gives Cam a look and Cam calms down
But she says she’s throwing the baby shower
Rosa: That’s not necessary?????
Luca just sees Cam’s face and is all like “maybe we should let her do it… That way she has something to throw her enthusiasm into…”
And Cam spends the rest of the day like watching them and whispering to Tom like “how are they so calm? What?”
Luca nods and they’re all chill, discussing names and stuff, while Cam is still super confused
They’re literally the most chill throughout the pregnancy to the point it might not be real
Rosa doesnt even get that much cravings and she settles most of them herself
And when her water broke she just goes and cleans it up before going to the hospital because she’s done her reading and there’s time
And Luca like drives and they run over the names as they get closer to the hospital
And Luca somehow knows exactly what to do
He remembered all the advice they had gotten and just.Casually supports Rosa the whole time
THE DOCTORS AND NURSES ARE SHOCKED AND FREAKING OUT INTERNALLY
She packs up and leaves and visits Luca for a few days and he shows her all the pretty flowers in the forest and she loves them and plants them in her garden
(Vitto runs around trying to find her because the palace is PANICKING)
She hates it when the guards paint them for the aesthetic
Her friend gave her those okay.
(Vitto reminds them not to and sometimes they listen but most of the time nope.)
And when they’re older and Luca gets less grumpy and more sassy and he just floats about vanishing and reappearing
And he probably tries to annoy Rosa sometimes
But it doesn’t really work too well because she loves having him around and is able to guess where he’s going to appear and tackles him in hug when it happens
He loves it (doesn’t understand how it works, sure. But loves the hugs. theyrefromherafterall)
Rosa gets annoyed a lot as a teen because she keeps growing out of her gowns because growth and puberty and every time it happens they make her a new set and its just wasteful
Rosa is v smitten by Luca and the palace hates it.
They keep hinting it’s improper and that Luca has no right to be around royalty and Ro gets so annoyed when it happens she picks up and lives with Broso for a few weeks.
(Not Luca anymore because he lives alone and that might not be the best idea. They aren’t children anymore and people speak.)
The palace fudged up running the kingdom without her and by the time Vitto manages to convince her to come back theyre too scared she’ll go away again and shuts up about it.
Rosa has this habit of calling her friends around her age and younger than her cara/caro. So she calls Broso and Vitto it too sometimes. She’s been calling Luca it forever and it was really just a friendly thing. But at around 15/16 when she’s starting to realise she has feelings it stops for a bit and when it starts again, it feels different when she calls Luca caro but no one can put a finger on why.

When Rosa was four the bruises started. She couldn't feel the pain that came with them, but she received the marks. When she asked her dad why he said it was because her soul mate was hurting, and soul mates share a lot of things, bruises are just some of the more visible things.
Rosa didn't like the bruises, didn't like what they meant. That her soul mate was hurting somewhere. It was always scary to wake up and find her previously blank skin covered in black and purple marks, marks that looked suspiciously like fists.
When Luca was nine, he started feeling pain that wasn't his. The boy was accustomed to pain, but he'd always been able to see it coming, could always see the warning signs. Sometimes he could even hide before it came. And when he couldn't avoid it, he knew to hide the marks.
Which was why he had no idea what had happened when he woke up in the nurse’s office. One minute he’d been in the playground, sitting alone and eating his lunch, then there was a feeling of flying and then he was on the floor, a sharp, inexplicable pain in his face. A week after that he found a perfectly healed scar on his jaw. This scar, for once, wasn't his.
He'd been extremely confused about the whole ordeal, despite knowing of soul mates. The nurse had explained everything to him while waiting for his father to pick him up. He'd never felt so guilty.
When Rosa was twelve, the bruises and scars stopped appearing, and she had no idea why.
When Luca was twelve he found his sister, and ran away from home.
When Rosa was thirteen, poems and song lyrics wrote themselves on her arms. She drew doodles around them, and flowers around any bruises that started to appear again. The words were in French in the beginning, but slowly started being written in English.
When Luca was fourteen a girl’s name was written on his arm. Just her first name, and a small introduction in English. Without thinking about it, he wrote a reply.
‘My name is Luca’ He had mimicked her format, simply changing out her name for his.
Rosa. Her name was Rosa.
The doodles and little conversations continued in broken English for both parties.
Soon they grew close to each other, and had conversations daily. Luca truly grew to care for Rosa, liking that he finally had a name for the girl he shared so much with. They both went to sleep with their arms, legs and sometimes even stomachs covered in writing.
When Rosa was fourteen she joined a new school. In America. She knew Luca lived in America, and the possibility of them meeting excited her, even though the country was so big.
In her second month of school she stopped a couple of bullies from hurting a guy her age. He introduced himself as Luke, she introduced herself as Rose. Her new American classmates seemed to find that easier.
She'd seen Luke about school, alone a lot. Rosa was alone a lot as well, though not for lack of trying. She spent some time with some cousins, Tom and Myst, outside of school. Tom’s girlfriend had shown up once, talking loudly of her younger brother, and when she'd noticed Rosa there, she'd smiled and introduced herself as Cam. Rosa enjoyed spending time with them, but having friends outside of school wasn't the same as having them in school.
Eventually she befriended one of the other Italians at the school, an extroverted boy by the name of Ambroso, Amber to the Americans. The boy was funny and clumsy, and had an adorable cousin in the nearby primary school. She even tried to talk to Luke every once in awhile, despite him being so aggressive and closed off.
She and Luca continued their written conversations, careful not to reveal too many details about their personal lives. Though they spoke about their thoughts, secrets and feelings, no names and locations were given. She didn't know why, but it was mutually agreed, and she didn't know how to discuss the issue further.
When Luca was sixteen he finally stopped being bullied. He'd fought back for most of his high school years, and eventually most of be aggressors graduated. He got a job, as per Cam’s suggestion, at a coffee shop. He'd told Rosa about it, and she told him she was overjoyed.
He boxed for a bit of extra money on the side, took part in competitions. He tried his best to get hit as little as possible so as not to inconvenience Rosa. Generally it was just his knuckles that were bruised.
A girl from school frequented the store. Her name was Rose, or something like that. She was nice. Luca found that he didn't find their conversations unpleasant and soon they became friends. She invited him to sit with her and her friends at school. He told her he'd think about it.
When Rosa was sixteen she made a new friend. At first it was just at his place of work, and then in was at school. When she had a reunion with Tom, Myst and Cam, Cam brought her brother. Imagine Rosa’s surprise at seeing ‘Luke’ from school there.
So they were reintroduced. Luke was Luca, and Rose was Rosa. Though of course, Luca was a common name, she was sure, she couldn't get her hopes up. So they continued to be friends, and just that. Luca even started sitting with her at lunch. Broso had been in shock, at first.
They grew close, though she never told him about her writing to her soul mate. That was too personal to share. It was their secret.
When Luca was seventeen, he quit boxing.
He decided this alone, and told people only after the fact. It'd made him feel like his father, despite his being good at the sport. He didn't want violence to be such a large part of his life. Besides, Rosa didn't deserve the bruises.
He grew closer to the Italian girl who had befriended him, and she made him smile. He rarely smiled, but with her he couldn't help it.
He avoided that Broso kid when he was excited though, the kid gestured like he wasn't constantly surrounded by people, and boy was he strong.
When Rosa was seventeen she finally found her soul mate.
She'd been spending more and more time with Luca from school, whilst writing more and more to her soul mate Luca. Her skin was constantly covered in ink. That summer Ambroso invited everyone to go to his house and spend some time by the pool. A pool party of sorts with their mismatched group of friends. Luca, Rosa, Ambroso and his little cousin Vittorio, and then Tom, Cam and Myst. It had been a little last minute and Rosa had almost forgotten to wash off all the writing.
When she got to Broso’s house she was a little late, she was tired from running the whole way, and she was wearing a long sleeved blouse. She hasn't managed to remove all the writing. Luca arrived even later, still wearing a hoodie. That boy always wore long sleeves, it was summer, wasn't he hot?
Cam and Tom were adorable as always, laughing and teasing in the loving manner those who had found their other half tended to. Myst was energetic and kind, as she always was, bouncing about, laughing with her brother and her friend. She made sure Broso and Vitto had suncream on and, of course, tried to persuade Rosa to get into the pool with everyone.
Broso and Tom had gone in first. Tom because Cam had pushed him, and Broso because he had jumped. Cam was next, pulled in by Tom, and Vitto had joined shortly after, stepping in slowly.
Luca had been staring at the pool but when Myst approached him to get him to come in, he'd stood up and went to the bathroom.
Rosa was next, she’d decided to just give up. The shirt was taken off, and laid next to her dress, the remains of the writing still visible around her swim suit. No one said anything.
Luca came back after a bit, hoodie pressed his chest. He seemed ready to enter the pool. When he saw Rosa, his hoodie slipped from his fingers, falling to the floor.
The writing on their bodies matched, and the two stared at each other silently for the longest time, as if in shock.
Then Luca started smiling, and so did Rosa, and they moved closer to each other. Closer and closer and they compared their arms, simply double checking. Of course the written words they'd both stupidly written in permanent pens were the same, identical.
They spent the rest of the day stuck together, talking to join the two separate ideas they had of each other. The friend and the soulmate becoming one.
When they were 18, they graduated, and they were together. Their entire little family of friends had gone to the ceremony afterwards they'd celebrated at Cam and Tom’s place.
Everyone was so warm and excited and conversation was on and off, and that was fine. The place was filled with love, and they were happy.
They'd found a family, friends, and they'd found each other. Everything was perfect, finally.
“Luca it's not that bad, maybe they won't even notice?”
The boy in question gives his roommate a withering glare, face turned into a scowl. “Won't notice?! Are you F***ing blind Broso?! My hair is a f***ing Rainbow!”
“Technically it's just blue, pink and purple….” Ambroso mutters, messing with his phone, not making eye contact with the furious French boy.
The older boy stands angrily, running a hand through his hair in frustration, muttering some choice words in his native language.
“Why today of all days? I have a job interview! I can't show up like this! She couldn't have waited until tomorrow, or next week or just never?!” Luca examines himself in the bathroom mirror, tugging on his fringe, in all its pastel coloured glory.
He'd woken up that morning with his normally chocolate brown hair dyed in varying shades of blue, purple and pink, courtesy of his soulmate. A girl he swore he’d give a stern talking to when they finally met properly. Her impulsive hair dying decisions affected him too, though she seemed to have forgotten this detail last night.
(Broso had woken up to screams and still hadn't quite recovered from the vulgar string of curses he had heard. Who'd have thought those words could be made to mean something so foul.)
Luca lets out a frustrated groan, and starts getting dressed for his job interview.
He'd worked really hard to get this interview and he wasn't about to throw away his opportunity to work in his dream job. Out of the corner of his eyes he sees Broso lift his phone and blinks at the flash.
He gives his friend a deadpan look, buttoning up his last button.
“Hey you look really cool..”
Luca just snorts and looks about for his portfolio.
“Whatever… Just… Ugh, I've got to get going… I’ll talk to you… After.”
The older boy grabs his keys, his bag and storms out of the apartment, muttering some more in bitter French.
As the door slams shut Ambroso flops back on their shared sofa and posts a photo online.
--
Hours later Luca leaves the official looking building that had hosted his interview and makes his way to a nearby coffee shop, needing something strong to bring his energy up. It hadn’t been too bad he supposed, but it had left him drained and be needed a black coffee or maybe something sweet just to feel less exhausted. As he walks to a cute little bakery nearby his phone starts ringing, and he answers with a groan.
“Broso?”
“Okay okay, don't kill me but I took a picture of you this morning and posted it online and-...”
“You-.. What?!”
Luca pushes the door open, gaze flickering about the adorable space. He breathes in deep and lets out a quiet sigh. The store smelt heavenly. He felt himself relax and tuned into Broso again.
“Yeah, I know it was an invasion of privacy and blah blah, but that's not important. What is important is that you're trending. 10k likes man.”
Luca blinks, stopping still some on his way to the counter. “Say that again… I think I heard you wrong..”
“You don't even want to Know what the comments are saying… Ten thousand likes, and it's still trending, apparently some celebrity rebloged it and people are going crazy-...”
Luca murmurs a curse, drawing the attention of the sweet looking owner, a woman who looked eerily like his sister’s boyfriend. Her gaze flickers from his clothes, to his hair, to his face, and back to his hair. Not that he notices. He especially doesn't notice the grin that makes its way onto her face as he approaches the front of the line.
He arrives at the main counter and looks up from the display to see a girl. A girl about his age, beautiful and her hair-...
His eyes widen and he looks up at her face to see a similar look of surprise on her face.
“.... Luca..?” He hears on the phone he's all but dropped.
Quietly he lifts the phone again.
“Broso… I'm going to have to call you back….” He hangs up and looks up the girl again. A warm feeling fills his chest. He’d found her.
His soul mate. A smile makes its way onto his face.
“I'm Rosa…” The girl says, a sheepish smile on her face as she tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Hair dyed just like his, streaks and streaks of blue, pink, and purple.
“Luca….” The boy replies, unable to find it in himself to be angry at this girl. How could he be?
Five minutes later Rosa was leaving work early with her soulmate, her overjoyed boss already snapping a ton of pictures.
Neither one of the couple realised, too deep in conversation.
The picture Broso posted ended up with 150k likes and shares.
The one Myst later posted of the two ended up with 300k.
Okay so Rosa’s hoodies are all huge and baggy because comfort and they’re obnoxiously cute. Sweater paws and bunny/cat ears and everything. Luca’s hoodies are just right on him, sometimes a bit baggy but not too much because he is smol and does not want to look smoller. Luca’s hoodies fit snug on Rosa so she doesn’t like wearing them at home but she does enjoy taking them out every once in a while during groceries or something. It ends with all of Luca’s hoodies in the washing machine on cold days and his last clean one is gone so he’s forced to wear Rosa’s oversized cute ones.
Luca: *stuck at home in a huge cat hoodie* Where did all of mine go??? Seriously.
Rosa: *comes back from groceries in his grey hoodie.
Luca: … Rosa…
Rosa squees over how cute Luca is.
(He does end up going out in her hoodies eventually and still manages to look fab)
