Entry 5: Wooowwww Chicago has Everything!
On the Saturday following move in, the trip to Ikea, and a visit to Indiana to drop off L’s car, L and I went on a roommate date.
L and I purchased the CTA 7 Day Pass for 28 USD and made our way downtown, dressed in stylish well-coordinated outfits. In hindsight, we should have purchased the CTA 30 Day Pass since my Loyola U-PASS would be active starting August 28th and she wouldn’t get hers until September, but now we know for the future, right?
We went to the Art Institute Museum after a delicious breakfast with freshly ground Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. I will definitely address my recent conversion to Dunkin’ drip from Starbucks drip in the future, but for now I will continue on my tale.
L and I hopped onto the “El”, which I thought was “L” for Line station and then changed to “L” for Loop station downtown instead of Elevated, and went to the Art Institute Museum. It was very busy, sunny, and still very humid. If I opened my mouth to speak, I could feel the moisture leaving my body. It definitely didn’t help that I kept saying “Woooowwwww!” every time I saw something new!
The Art Institute Museum is gorgeous. It has two lions at the front which are outfitted at different times of the year. It was filled with tourists and stay-cationists. The area surrounding Millennium Park was packed with teens in swimsuits coming to and from Lollapalooza 2017. In the museum, I took a few candids of my cute roommate and was able to see amazing pieces of work. There is currently a Gauguin art exhibit at the Art Institute which L and I didn’t go to see, but I would definitely like visit since he is my favorite artist.
After visiting the museum, L and I went to Eataly for a late lunch. I had pesto, which is one of my favorite foods, and L got a personal pizza. The pesto was delicious, but my favorite version is still Pasta & Co’s Radiatore with Pesto (http://www.pastaco.com/menus/).
We walked off lunch downtown and saw the Bean from afar. It was too crowded to walk under it. L and I went shopping and visited the big Sephora on Michigan Ave. I was very dehydrated because I kept saying “Wooowwww!” and exclaimed how wonderful it was that Chicago can offer everything and anything anyone could ever want to purchase or experience. L and her family tease me about my now go-to reaction, but I can’t help what awe I am experiencing in the city.
For dessert, L took me to the Sprinkles cupcake vending machine. During one of our conversations, I told her about a Facebook video I had seen about a cupcake machine in L.A. and really wanting to see one. L is so thoughtful! I appreciate that she remembered that small wish.
