Day-3 of the Inosanto Silat Camp was awesome, and FAST! It went by so quick. Warmed up with Kickboxing Combos, then Malong/Sarong work, and finally review after the lunch break. A highlight of the day was having the opportunity once again to have a little longer conversation with Sifu Ron Balicki, as well as officially meet his wife/ Guro Dan’s daughter, Simo Diana Lee Inosanto. She is just as sweet and lovely as she is talented & skillful. And yes, she was also gracious enough to take a picture with this sweaty bearded guy from the Midwest. Well Day-1 of this year’s Silat camp had an extra added bonus for me. I had the opportunity to speak with Sifu Ron Balicki. Approximately 15 years ago I saw a video of him giving a detail on how to perform the Putar Kapala, and it completely changed the game for me. That small detail made me realize that Silat is totally an art about DETAILS and made me fall in love with finding the “Rasha”, the small details which make the big differences. Getting the opportunity to say thank you to him was a true thrill for me. He was even kind enough to step outside for a picture. Thank you Sifu Ron Balicki for your inspiration, the generosity with your knowledge of the arts, and for taking the time to indulge me in a few minutes of conversation. I’m humbled.
