Jay wasn't exactly the brightest crayon in the box, and despite promising his parents (and Dumbledore) that he would focus more on his studies, meeting Ronan to go for a drink in Hogsmeade, and blowing off the last few periods of the school day seemed like a much better option to him. 'A casual drink' was what the boys had arranged, though Jay had a small surprise up his sleeve for his new friend. Unbeknown to Ronan, Jay had hidden a Boggart, in a small chest inside the Shrieking Shack, the supposedly haunted building on the outskirts of the small wizarding village. Jay didn't find ghosts scary in the least, the castle was filled with them, and even the more mischievous ones like Peeves couldn't cause that much harm. Jay was keen to capture the reaction of his friend, and also to see what he was most afraid of.
But first, he had to convince Ronan to go near the most haunted building in Britain, so a few rounds at the Hogs Head was on the cards. Though the Stonem boy favoured The Three Broomsticks, he also knew that was the drinking-place of the majority of the staff on the their time off, and Madame Rosmerta was very chatty when it came to what students had been in her tavern during school hours. Jay was keen to cause a bit of trouble, but not that much, and he didn't fancy explaining why he was skipping class to Dumbledore to A) go drinking and B) play around with magical creatures without supervision in C) a place that students were banned from.
Jay was giddy to get going as he saw Ronan padding down the hill from the castle. The Stonem boy lifted his tall frame from one of the many stone benches that littered the grounds of Hogwarts, the muscles in his arms dancing under his weathered skin as he pushed himself to his feet. "You took your time," he grinned cheekily, supposing that Ronan had been with a pretty Gryffindor that Jay had recently come to clash with on the quidditch pitch.
