When Morticia Addams said, "Life's not all lovely thorns and singing vultures, you know," and "Hearts are wild creatures, that's why our ribs are cages."
the key to school is to just romanticise it. pretend that everything is just part of a movie, read on ur breaks, put ur earphones in and listen to music, drink hot coffee on your way to school, get a morning and night routine, eat sushi for lunch, go to coffee shops to do work, sit in the library, wear cozy, sweaters, get a tote bag, and pretend you re paris geller
My kind of romanticism
05.12.2025 Rained heavily all throughout today. In the dusk (it gets dark early here) I walked through the glow of city lights in the rain to a new cafe.
I always get lattes - had a cappuccino many years ago and found it bitter and enjoyed the silky smoothness of a latte. But now and for quite some time I find that I just cannot taste much coffee when I order lattes.
Got a cappuccino for the first time in however many years and oh my it’s perfect. I can taste the coffee but it’s not unpleasantly bitter like it once was, and the amount of milk is perfect. So here’s to maturing from lattes to cappuccinos, but I don’t think I’ll ever mature to having any type of black coffee without milk.
Anyway, the cafe was really cute and it was just so cosily atmospheric - the scent of coffee, warm lights, sight of delicious pastries and baked food contrasted wonderfully with the biting cold and rain outside.

You hate winter? Romanticise the fuck out of it. All 5 senses
Sight - mood lighting in all your fav places, light candles when you're chilling in bed, make a point to look at the moon, take photos of all the things you find beautiful, do things just for the aesthetics
Sound - acquire a cd/record player or a good streaming service. Find some albums you love but not to actively listen to (I recommend classical, something that makes you feel nostalgic, happy or like a pretentious twat). Before you go to school every morning, actively choose what you want to listen to, based on the day and the weather and your mood. If you see something that looks like it'll crunch (leaves, frosty grass, cans), stomp on it
Smell - whenever you're stationary (in bed, mindlessly consuming media) have something scented going - my personal fav is incense, candles, reed diffuser, hell even a nice room spray works. If you can, find a perfume you adore and put it on every morning. Make a ritual of it. Find body washes and shampoos you love and take joy in showering with them
Touch - wear nice clothes that you like the feel of (charity shop I beg). Layer up whenever you go out and take joy in being warm. Take a lot of joy in winter things - buy nice scarves, leg warmers, gloves etc and wear them whenever you can. But also enjoy the feeling of the bite of cold on your face, of your nose and ears freezing
Taste - be deliberate about what you eat, make sure you get joy from eating everything by really taking the time to taste it slowly and experience the flavours. Make hot drinks a regular occurrence, especially in cold evenings. Try as many different teas as you can. If you see something you've never heard of before, try it (not from Starbucks tho, fuck Starbucks). Bake regularly, love the process and be proud of the results.
This won't fix everything, I know a lot of this is unattainable if you're struggling with your mental health, or don't have the funds and my heart goes out to everyone struggling this yuletide. But if you see those posts being like 'romanticise your life 💕😀🫶🏻😌' and have absolutely no clue what that means, then this is a guide
