There’s this guy on YouTube that makes like videos of him 3D printing items for his future wife, he’s single and at first I was like ‘aw this is pretty cute.’ Then I noticed his pfp which happened to be AI and decided to looked closer.
I noticed all the items were ultimately useless or will be easily broken. For example he occasionally makes statues, the statue is usually all one colour and the most basic thing ever. He’ll even make safety items which overall will end up breaking or doing no damage at all. Or he’ll make oversized items that are just impractical for everyday life.
And I did some digging and he’s not even making the designs himself. He’s just taking pre-existing designs and printing them off.
And Idk, but I feel like the romance I dreamed of as a kid never existed.
The idea you’re making something for your future spouse and it’s cheap plastic from a printer you didn’t even make yourself. When did we start making romance and love a commodity? Something that’s so precious into something commercial and cheap.
And sometimes I wonder if this is the reason I identify as aroace, because romance is so tainted by capitalism and it’s consequences that I doubt I can ever see myself in it.
I don’t want a cheap plastic statue, I want you to make me something.
I don’t want your looks, I want you.
I don’t want to spend the holidays counting money, I want to spend time with you.
I want our romance to be as alive as the trees, as alive as us.
I don’t want to be some capitalist coin, a commodity you can buy and sell. And I’m not sure how to explain it. But I don’t think I can ever love anyone in the way love is intended now.
