Rocla
The second professional practice was with Rocla, a company which manufactured forklift trucks for Mitsubishi's European forklift group. Our first meeting was based in a motorcycle museum which was a pleasant change of working environment. The meeting itself was inside the diner which had an art-deco vibe. Perhaps the motorcycles set the mood for what we were bout to design this day and onward.Β
The first task was to draw the brand image of Mitsubishi the way I saw it. What Rocla wanted by the end of the project were brand characters to promote advertising, vest designs as well as new truck and service car designs.Β
The meeting progressed by people standing up, introducing themselves and explaining what they had drawn. This was a good idea in my opinion as it allowed everyone from different years, and departments to familiarise themselves with the other members of essentially one large team. This was all spoken in English which worked well with these 3rd and 4th years as they were a little better at speaking it, as well as saving time translating the instructions in Finnish all the time.Β
With both projects, only one person was designated to be project manager, no more and this really seemed to help create the idea that everyone was really on the same team, after the same goal. I volunteered for the character design and vests as I mentioned to them that my skills as a vehicle designer were not adequate for the task.Β
