Redefining female sexuality to show it as a tool for empowerment is an act that is still persecuted, and we will see that in this program with our three guest bands, Genitorturers, Sick & Wrong and Rockbitch.

Sick & Wrong is the band with the most active record production in this issue, with 3 LPs in a period of 20 years. This band, originally from Florida, is led by its vocalist Gen, a dominatrix who, both in her lyrics and in her performances, is mainly concerned with the practice of sadomasochism.

This live band features a variety of extras, in which scenes of bondage, humiliation, piercing, suspension, propose a different view and practice of sexuality, as well as the use and our relationship with the body. With interactive works in which members of the public are involved, Genitorturers' performances go beyond sound and spectacle, understood as simple entertainment and technical display. In them there is an ethical commitment in which pain, the Judeo-Christian and bourgeois ethos, and the separation of the public and private spheres are questioned.

In short, a band that refuses to conform to the bourgeois value of respectability and whose proposal remains on the side of art, and not simple entertainment as the pop and institutional assimilationism of major national events intends.

Sick & Wrong

Seattle has become the epicentre of rock music in the early 1990s in the popular rock imagination. According to the documentary Hype!, which focuses on the music scene in the city, many people in the United States saw this city as the place to be at the time. And with good reason, since all the major record labels had their eyes on it, looking for the next Nirvana that would bring them significant financial gains.

Despite all this boom, and the fact that many bands from this city signed lucrative record contracts, Sick & Wrong, a group that included Mr. Wendy and Little Miss Farrah on vocals, never became very well-known beyond its borders. This band, in which Mr. Wendy came on stage with a dildo and simulated fellatio with members of the audience, did not attract much to the mass media and the major record companies who were supposedly very happy with rebellious proposals, as were supposedly the misunderstood Nirvana or the reflective Pearl Jam.

Sick & Wrong was a group with a sound reminiscent of garage rock and at times of the voice of Wendy O. Williams, whose lyrics in many songs were of explicit and obscene sexual content. She only managed to release a full-length album in the late 1990s, when all the fever for the northwest of the United States had already passed. This album is not at all memorable, although it is listenable, something that is not enough reason to understand the lack of interest by the mass media and the music industry, since the lack of quality or originality was not an obstacle for many of the bands of the time that were pigeonholed either under the label of grunge or alternative rock, a category that says as little about a sound as the current indie.

Rockbitch

If there was a band that made sexuality a topic of work, it was Rockbitch. This British group that only released one album at the end of the last century, was created around a paganism in which the free sexuality of women was the fundamental basis. With a staging that included the "cult of the pussy" (how else to translate the word cunt ?), oral sex, nudity and dancers/actresses, Rockbitch's concerts were an ethical and aesthetic proposal, which without being similar is comparable to that of Genitorturers.

One thing our guests today have in common is that they do not have an extensive recording career or world tours in large venues and extensive publicity. They are even bands that are sometimes left out of more liberal circuits such as the large Western rock festivals. This gives rise to the hypothesis that they are marginalized for their aesthetic/ethical proposal that is still not well received in a society that, although hypersexualized, continues to conceive sex from a moralistic discourse in which sexism and domination continue to play central roles.
