Do you ever think about the fact that DiZ put a child in a virtual reality, wrote over his memories and personality, gave him an entirely new life and then rapidly broke down all of those things until said child was too destroyed to do anything else but cease existing?
And he didn't regret it at the time, because said kid didn't have "a right to be".

I saw your post about worse than deathing a 15 year old Roxas with his memories of memories of memories. Was thinking a hurt/comfort prompt with that? maybe some Ven going a bit crazy realizing his new sibby got (mentally) sifted apart (nice and neat) by Bad Adult?
What you're asking for, my friend, is a SPOILER.
But you know what it'll be two years before I reach the scene actively based on exactly this in the story I'm thinking of, so... we're gonna. Do it now. A little differently. Why not? <3
------------------------------
When Aqua said they needed a Heart specialist for their current project, he shouldāve guessed. Shouldāve known who that would be.
Still, Roxas fixates, the moment he steps through the doors. Welcomed in by Aqua, who smiles. Sayingā something. Something nice, Roxas imagines. To his left, Xion glances across curiously as Axel stiffens with anger. Sora blinks, wide eyed, before he visibly swings his body towards his Other. Rikuās half out of his chair, clearly torn on the best way to resolve this.
Thereās. Probably other reactions. He doesnāt know. He doesnāt really feel like heās registered any of the ones heās taken note of, just- clinical notes. Something he couldā could tuck away into hisā
His coat.Ā
His lab coat.
Roxasā eyes flick up, and thereās no bandages there. The skin seems lighter. He didnāt know he was blond. He hasā a beard.Ā
The eyes are the same. A light enough brown to appear almost orange, almost yellow. Almost golden. They stare back at him and Roxas isā heā
If he pinched himself right now, would he still be real? Is heā
āOh!ā Ventus bursts out, breathlessly. A flicker. Bright. Roxasā eyes are drawn over. Venās on his feet, bouncing on his heels with a bright, friendly smile. A wide smile, that shows off the dimples in his cheeks. āI know you!ā
He bounds forward, practicallyā vibrating. Blurring, a little. Heās right there, in front of him. Standing between the man and his line of sight with Roxas with his hand outstretched and a bright, bright smile.Ā
āAnsem the Wise, right?ā No one else notices. Almostā no one else notices. But Xionās going stiff in her chair and Soraās leaping out of his, as that voice chuckles, just likeāĀ
It didā
Back when he wasā
A tool, at best.
His chest is burning, for some reason. His chest is burning, and Ventus is still holding out his hand. Ansem theā Ansem, takes it. Shakes it. Canāt see his expression anymore, just that voice, and words.
āThat is what they have deemed to call me.ā
āOh yeah?ā Ven says, and heās. Talking through his teeth. āSo, I should call you DiZ?ā
A few things happen then, in rapid succession. Ven clutches the hand in his own, harder. Roxas exhales, loudly. Inhales, just as loudly. Soraās chair falls to the ground with a clatter. Axel swears, uncouth and nasty.
Above all of them, all those sounds, is the smack of flesh against flesh. Ventus wrenches Ansem closer-
Decks him across the face.Ā
Anseā Diā a man in a lab coat hits the ground, and the world seems to explode.
Everyoneās shouting. Terra hauls Ventus into his arms, which might have been a good call on his part, because even held up and away, the blond is snatching down at that prone form, clawing at the air to get to him. Kicking furiously as Aqua shouts his name, as more chairs hit the ground, as Sora pulls Roxas out of his seat and backs them into a corner, saying something in his ear.
Rikuās kneeling byā checking that heās still breathing, and Aqua is trying to gain control of this. Shouting at Ven. Asking him whatās wrong. Ven is.
Baring his teeth, eyes wild. Shouting over her, the only voice in the room that seems to make any sense.
āMonster!ā Ventus screams, over and over again. āMonster. Murderer.ā
Roxas heaves, on his breaths, on something else. The world tastes acrid, tilted on its side. Pitched two steps to the left. Except for Ven. Ven, who screams, and snarls, and doesnāt calm down, not when Riku assists Ansem out of the room, not when Aqua tells him to. Not when Terra falls back into a chair, still holding Ventus tightly against himself.
Restraining him fromā hurting someone? Himself?
Both. Unclear.
Soraās still talking at him. Murmuring now. Rubbing his hands up and down Roxas' arms as Axel and Xion hover. Kairi is, too. Heās neverā felt this blind, before. To Sora. His Other is right there, but heās just.
His Other is responding to him. Roxas is pretty sure heās not responding to anyone. And Ven isā
Crackling. Little flickers of Light that dance behind his teeth and brighten his eyes in a way that speaks of how heās not calming down, not a bit. Heās doing the opposite, maybe.
Maybe thatās why Roxas can hear him, right now.
Because Soraās responding to him, sure. Axelās angry. Xionās concerned.
Ven justā knows. Ven knows. Roxas never- told anyone. But Ven knows.
Vanitas scowls before he even looks up, Roxas notes. It's kind of satisfying- he's not wanted here, which is great. He doesn't want to be here either.
This whole thing is a huge pain. Tracking Vanitas down? Only 40% of the problem. Maybe 30%. Less.
Thinking back on Ven's despondent moping, the last couple of days- less. Way less.
"Chili pepper," Vanitas says flatly. Ooh, he's getting the term of endearment as a threat today, is he? Ven's idiot side must be feeling the weight of his own bullshit. That's rare. "I didn't ask for your company."
"And I didn't want to give it, but here we are." Roxas shrugs, rolls his shoulders. Dumps his backpack off to the side- if he's lucky, Vanitas won't purposefully target it. If he does, well. Not the first time he's had to explain to his teacher that a dog ate his homework.
He can just ask Olette to photocopy it for him. She wouldn't help him cheat, of course, but she wouldn't discourage him from actively trying to do the work.
"So, how are we doing this? You ready to try just talking, for once, or-"
Void Gear almost cleaves his head off. Alright, fine. Fighting it is.
As per usual.
Roxas doesn't waste time between summoning Oblivion and summoning Oathkeeper. Vanitas can be fast, in a lot of ways, but his biggest strength is his strength; he comes at Roxas with all the force of a runaway tram, the ground rushing up at him that one time he did- or didn't- fall from the clock tower. Roxas needs both blades, because the times he needs to outright block Vanitas' attacks, he's only going to be successful if he uses both arms to match that power.
The solution is not to give Vanitas many opportunities to make him block, of course.
He's sure they make for quite a sight. On the one hand, he's leaning on- Light. Maybe not just Light. The In-between, catching at his heels and rapidly propelling himself across the ground, refusing to provide Vanitas with a still target. On the other, Vanitas meets him with pulses of Darkness. After-echo on after-echo, distorted visages of his wild, intense expression, lips pulled into a snarl more often than not. Instantly, viciously bloody. Literally.
They kick up the dirt and leave flecks of red across the ground in their wake. Artwork bordering on morbid. Vanitas pushes him hard- their dance crosses distance, a lot of it. From the middle of nowhere to the centre of some random town in some random world, where people race to get out of their way with shouts of alarm. Both of them are distracted from beating each other bloody to ensuring that they're not stuffed in a jail cell for property damage.
How long does it take, all up? Who's counting. It takes as long as it takes, Roxas putting just as much focus on conserving his energy as he is in ensuring he fights smart, because Vanitas isn't.
He never fights smart when Roxas has to come find him. Vanitas fights like someone struggling to bottle things back up. Like Roxas just walked on in and smashed those bottles against the floor.
Like a guy who keeps fucking up and needs someone else to come fix his mess. To force him into cleaning it up himself.
Vanitas is gulping air by the time they break apart. Shoulders heaving with effort and all that released tension; Roxas is going to have to come back to this world, for a week or two. Play clean up with all the Unversed this dipshit has spread about the place. That'll suck, too, and Vanitas will deserve all those painful little reminders to sort his shit out better, before Roxas has to come sort it for him.
"He doesn't understand what he did." Roxas tells him. The Darkness snarls at him, a wordless, vitriolic piece of rage that rushes across the gap between them, and Roxas-
Sidesteps. Sticks his foot out. Watches Vanitas smack his face into the ground with no, small amount of satisfaction. Fucking moron. They're both morons, sure, but Vanitas always takes the cake.
Roxas never gets an easy win over him when they're sparring. Only when Vanitas is so fixated on Ventus- on what Ven did, or what he did- that he fails to think at all.
Pushing the tip of Oblivion down into Vanitas' spine, Roxas repeats himself. Because it's just- words. He keeps having to repeat. To the guy who hates having to repeat himself. Damn hypocrite.
"He doesn't understand what he did. And you know what? I don't even care." Roxas pauses, taking a moment to catch his own breath. His muscles are starting to shake- he really needs to go for a walk. Stretch, before they begin aching.
Going after Vanitas is such a marathon. One of those, ride a bike for two hours. Now run. Swim a fucking channel, kind of things. Roxas is going to feel this chase for days; Vanitas is going to feel it too, sure. But he'll be preoccupied with... ugh.
Whatever. Some people never get punished enough.
"I don't care what Ven did. He fucked up? Fine. He'll say sorry. He always does." Since Vanitas hasn't even bothered to move, it's safe enough to dismiss his weapons. Drop down next to him, give his legs a break.
Smack the back of his head and listen to Vanitas hiss against the dirt.
"Except I bet he didn't fuck up, and all this shit is just you torturing yourself. So stop torturing him with all his stupid ideas that you're really not coming back this time."
"What do you know?" Vanitas sounds- petulant. Like a kid throwing a tantrum.
"I know he hasn't slept in at least two days. I know I couldn't get him to eat, this morning." Sharp, pointed rebuttals. The kind that have Vanitas' shoulders tensing. "I know he's gonna keep falling apart until you get your head out of your ass and fix this."
"Not everything can be fixed, Roxas."
"Sure. You'll do it anyway, because you two always do." When Vanitas pushes himself up on his elbows, Roxas stands, sighing. Offers a hand that Vanitas doesn't take, but it's offered. Not smacked away, so- fight over. "Just go be weird for a week or whatever. You guys are good at that."
Vanitas' expression when he turns to him is much better. The cogs are turning again, eyes not so much focusing on Roxas as they are the million and one tasks the Darkness is now setting up for himself. All to do with Ventus, of course. It's always going to be about Ventus.
Both of them are bloodied and battered, but Roxas doesn't invoke the chance of another battle by offering to heal them. He's made that mistake before. He gives Vanitas a lazy salute with his fingers, the sort of thing Axel would do- he'll heal himself when he's out of sight, and Vanitas will lick his own wounds or, considering who he'll be off to see shortly-
Again. Ugh.
"Welp, this was annoying. Let's never do it again."
Vanitas huffs out an almost laugh. Smirks at him. Roxas waits until he's turned on his heels before rolling his eyes, lest he encourages him to be even more of a dick about it. They'll be doing this again, absolutely. Circle of life, or whatever.
"You know, Roxas. If you enjoy us being weird you could always just come watch-"
They've smashed up a good amount of everything that wasn't bolted down in this town, but Roxas grabs for the first thing still upright, tossing it Vanitas' way. The Darkness- the asshole, unrepentant piece of shit- wheezes out a laugh as the chair collides with him, toppling back to the ground as his amusement turns into cackles.
Fucking chair didn't even break. Where'd he leave his bag?
You think DiZ programmed parents for Roxas? I lean towards no or OR Roxas has the false memories of parents.
I reckon he programmed a mom who was a nurse. Nightshift mom working 12-16 hour shifts who Roxas never actually sees because she's always at work or asleep. They leave each other notes. She's always telling him to behave.
Because why not force Roxas to have another reason for why he is so very, very quiet and well behaved? He has to be quiet at home. He has to be good. His mom works so hard for him. He can't be ungrateful. He has to be well behaved and clean up after himself and walk on eggshells in his own home, all the time. Because he loves his mom, doesn't he? He knows she's exhausted.
And lol, he doesn't. Know. That normal people. Get days off.

I sent a previous ask about what Vanitas would do if he found Venās empty body, it was delightful, but what about Roxas.
Roxas who hasnāt been found by the organization yet, only a day or two old. Vanitas finds him first.
Would Vanitas be able to tell that somethingās wrong?
If Roxas is with Vanitas where does that leave Sora?
You didn't sign this Bunny but that's okay I will tell the people it was you.
And oh. Man. It depends on a couple of things? Like, I'm going to actively say here I'm not touching on actions I intend him to take in So Much (For) Stardust or Little Lion Man because like, yeah. He's coming across Roxas in both of those.
If Roxas has Ven's Heart and I genuinely headcanon that he does, it seems altogether too likely that he is, in fact, carrying Ven's Heart, it could just end in straight up murder. Depending on where Vanitas is as person, murder is not off the table.
Would Vanitas rip apart a couple day old zombie to get his Light back? Yeah. Yeah, he would.
But if we give him the same sense of caution and self-restraint he has in Little Lion Man, it could get a lot more interesting. Because Ventus is there, but so is something else. Something undeveloped, but growing. Roxas looks like Ventus, but isn't. Vanitas knows, he knows-- that is not his body. It looks like his body, but it isn't.
Something that looks like Ven, holds Ven, isn't Ven. The how and why of it is lost to Vanitas entirely, and that's a reason to be cautious. Either way he's smuggling this kid off to someplace remote enough that no one finds him, and Roxas gets the fun of having Vanitas as his only constant as he comes into himself.
He'd raise Roxas to be a shield for his Light. Roxas would be fucking ruthless. He's already ruthless enough in canon when he's pushed to that, but he'd be pushed to that, immediately. And he'd know. He'd know about Ventus, and all those questions he has in canon, about why he has the Keyblade, why he exists?
The answer isn't Sora, it's Ven. He exists to house Ven. He exists to protect Ven. He exists to get Ven back to his own body, eventually. He exists up to the point where Ven doesn't need him anymore, where Vanitas gets to take over, and after that? Who fucking knows.
Either this would get very dark or Vanitas would trick himself into giving a shit and it'd eventually turn out okay.
Probably the latter if Vanitas finds out Roxas is a Nobody and gets exposed to the whole "Nobodies cannot feel/should not exist" garbage because, nah. Nah. This is his (and Ven's?) kid now. No one gets to tell him he shouldn't exist.
Vanitas goes scorched earth for Roxas and Roxas goes scorched earth for Ven. Truly the best of both worlds.
How do you think Roxas feels about Anti/Rage form?
Hates it. Positively terrified of it. Imagine you're just idly kicking sand around someone's illusion island in bumheart nowhere and it's suddenly Swallowed By Darkness. Roxas would have absolutely no idea what was happening and probably thinks oh, this is it, now I'm actually about to die.
I know other people headcanon that Roxas has more control when Sora's in Anti/Rage and I agree only because that's funny as shit. But I think. He hates them. Because he's seen the absolute destruction they cause Sora on the inside, and whether it's self preservation or genuine care for Sora, he Would Not Like That.
Do you think Vanitas and Roxas would be interested in school? Or maybe online classes? Or just learning stuff in general?
šBunny
I think they'd both be gluttons for knowledge in different ways.
For Roxas, it's an anything and everything kind of deal. He'd go back to school, get really into pop culture, probably happily join Xion in going to like, the most random museums ever-- train museums, textile museums, cheese factories. He just wants to learn and live and know the world, curiosity is generally one of the defining traits I give his character (thanks to the Days manga).
Vanitas would be a bit more picky about what he wants to learn, mostly because he wouldn't necessarily want to be a normal person? He'd want to inhale things about magic and battles and tactics, strategies and histories of wars. And Keyblades, of course. So a much more fixed aim, a lot less interested in a wide variety of things.
Depending on any hobbies he's encouraged to develop, he'd probably inhale information about that, too. I know the fandom really loves the idea of Vanitas cooking, I quite like that one. Gardening is also something I've seen a lot. A hobby where he can either grow or create would probably be researched just as seriously as survival all the neat tricks he can do with a sword.
