I may be selling The Blue Nile short, because I describe their music as a mix of electronic instruments and emotional vocals. They’re much more than the sum of their parts, but one gets continually surprised to notice how organic they sound despite their reliance on musical machinery. Hats, their follow-up to their debut, contains even more appliances of synthesizers and drum machines, yet they managed to do an incredibly poignant album. Their themes deepen on that LP, i.e. they still deal with a place between longing and optimism, though there is already a sense of weariness. However, the awareness of the latter is not as strong as later on. While Buchanan, Bell and Moore hope for the best, they know that this might be futile.
My Trigger by Miike Snow from the album iii - Directed By Ninian Doff [Behind the scenes here]
The song contains elements from J Dilla's The Diff'rence (2006), which samples Fruitman (1974) by Kool & the Gang.
