Y’all don’t understand the obsession that acne sufferers have with washing our face every night.
Even if I come home drunk at 4am, I’m still wiping all my makeup off and washing my f*ckin face okay?
This is why I hate it when friends and family recommend their stupid soaps and say things like “just wash your face at night with this” 🙄🙄🙄
8.25.19
hi all! recently i’ve been trying new spot treatments to maintain my clear skin, and oh my god have they worked. this one is amazing. so, i’ve seen a lot of youtubers and influencers use the mario badescu drying lotion but that stuff costs $14 for a super tiny bottle. it didn’t really seem worth it to me because i’ve seen a lot of people have mixed reviews. anyway, i decided to google the ingredients and found that i already owned the two main ingredients, so i made my own haha. i’m sure this has been done before so i don’t take credit for this idea!
here are the ingredients for the spot treatment and a summary of my current skincare routine:
ingredients:
-benzoyl peroxide acne treatment cream (i used the kroger/ralph’s brand)
-calamine lotion
steps:
-i wash my face with a bar of dove sensitive skin soap and then pat it dry
-i then moisturize my skin with the cetaphil moisturizing cream (it comes in a tub)
-after that i apply a pea-sized amount of the benzoyl peroxide cream to my finger and dab it onto any blemishes
-next i put some calamine lotion onto a q-tip and then dot that onto the aforementioned spots and any red areas (example in picture)
-i sleep with the spot treatment on overnight and rinse it off when i wake up
honestly this has done wonders for my skin haha, and i hope it helps someone else!
MY ROACCUTANE JOURNEY IS OVERRRRRRR
roaccutane (7.)
Good afternoon 🦊
So, what’s new? Recently I’ve been prescribed roaccutane to treat my acne. I have to take 40mg of roa every evening for 9 months (by the way it’s hella expensive)
Due to this I’ve decided that I’m going to turn this blog into some kind of diary where I’m going to share my experience in taking this medicine which is going to “magically cure” my acne in no time. I’m really looking forward to it 🙄
I am now on the 7th day of roaccutane and my face looks a bit worse than it did on the 1st day (you know they say that it has to get worse than it starts to get better). There haven’t been any notable side effects yet: just some new white heads appeared a few days ago. My lips aren’t so dry as I thought they’d be, which can’t be bad.
Maybe the only annoying thing is that I’m now obsessed and wake up every morning hoping that my face has completely cleared up overnight. It makes you really upset when you see that it only gets worse 🤥
But I know for sure that I need to calm tf down and just patiently wait for roaccutane to start doing its job and destroying my lips:))
I’ll try to post something about my journey every once in a while, maybe not every day, but regularly.
Btw I apologise for any mistakes in the text, English isn’t my first language 😕
Have a good day!! ❤️

accutane update 11/24/18
I’ve been on Accutane for just over a week and it’s already kicking my ass. I’m taking two 40mg pills daily (80mg daily) and ohhh lawd. My face is already starting to dry out like crazy and my lips burn and peel even if they’re hydrated. My hands suddenly became so so dry, and I’ve developed rashes on them that BURN. My back has been giving me issues for a couple days now. I know it has to get worse before it gets better. I’m in the “purging” period of it already where my face is breaking out bad. I hope this will be worth the 6 months of taking it.
Dry scalp on Accutane
Has anyone else struggled with a dry scalp while taking Accutane? I’m over two months into my course and only now am I experiencing itchiness and dandruff. Dumb and impatient as I am, I’ve been scratching it and now I think I also have scabs up there, so yeah...
I just massaged my scalp with some jojoba & argan oil. I might keep doing this to see if it makes any difference. Do you guys have any tips on how to treat this? Maybe you have some recommendations on deep conditioning treatments? I’d prefer vegan, cruelty-free and natural products but if you have any other suggestions I’ll gladly take them as well! Just tryna fix this mess...
Furthermore, I recently switched from commercial, synthetic shampoos to Lush’s bar shampoos, so maybe that has something to do with it as well? Since I’m on Accutane I don’t wash my hair very often. One to two times a week at most. But you’d think natural products would cause less damage than synthetic ones, right? Maybe all this needs is just some accustoming as well.
I’m generally trying to switch to more natural and organic products when it comes to skincare and beauty. That’s why I’ve completely switched to natural oils as moisturizer now. I’m not sure if it’s working for me - oils have always made me break out before, and I’m still getting small pimples... I actually feel like it’s not enough moisture for my skin, even! But I want to keep trying this out, because I’ve read that it just takes a bit of time for your skin to become accustomed to the oils, and eventually it’ll even out the sebum production or something? Please, correct me if I’m completely lost here :^D
Might start using Origin’s overnight mask again, since it’s one of the few moisturizers that actually work and don’t make me break out. Smells lovely too. Too bad it isn’t vegan and natural though :^( What skincare routine works for you? Specifically asking people with acne and who are on Accutane, of course.
Four-year anniversary post! February 18th 2014 - February 19th 2018
The photos in the left column are of me exactly four years ago, when my acne was at its worst. I had just started my first course of Accutane. It was my eighth day of taking the medication. The photos in the right column are of me ten minutes ago, unedited and in natural light.
I know that what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. I think anyone suffering from stubborn acne can relate to this. People give advice whether out of the goodness of their heart or not and it becomes exasperating hearing it day in and day out because you feel as though you have already tried everything and nothing has worked. This is why I am making this post, for people who have tried everything except Accutane and are considering trying it but are unsure or are feeling apprehensive about the potential side effects. If someone had shown me four years ago what my skin looks like today I wouldn’t have believed them. I was over it, I was done. I was miserable and I hated looking at myself in the mirror. I had suffered from bouts of severe acne for five years at this point. My acne was painful, my skin literally felt like it was crawling. I had tried every popular anti-acne product under the sun in addition to birth control and strong antibiotics. I thought I was doing something wrong. I still assumed my acne could be cured through diet and lifestyle changes. While that may have been a case to a certain degree--I have since stopped smoking and crash dieting and now live a life filled with yoga, eating well and treating myself in moderation--I now know that just like with any medical condition, treating cystic acne is something that should be left to the professionals.
I may not have known it back then, but starting Accutane was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I am so grateful that this drug has worked as well as it has. My journey wasn’t entirely roses; I still remember the lethargy, the sore joints, dry skin, dry eyes, dry lips and the depressive symptoms on top of my already existing major depression. Even now I have a predisposition to eczema that did not exist before. My knees make cracking noises at times and I can no longer run like I used to. Did I know this was a possibility going in? Yes. Was I willing to deal with the consequences, knowing that I could stop taking it at any time that I thought things were getting too much? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
