Hey, I was wondering what happened to Mystery after his death in RN:TR

OOOHHH amazing question!!

(SPOILERS FOR RN:TR'S ENDING, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK)

Basically, in the lore with the Shinigami, if they die by immortal circumstances- (immortal weapons such as scythes most likely, or one strong af immortal being)- they will cease to exist.

Shinigami do not have souls in the same way that mortals do. They are the soul collectors, but they own no true souls themselves. They are essentially already dead. That is why Skull never shows up after young Mystery murders him. Skull cannot return to a state of being if his original being was already beyond 'life', if that makes sense.

The same applies to Mystery. Mystery upon basically forcing one of Skull's eyes in his empty eye sicket, he essentially became a shinigami, abet not exactly one. I could go into detail about the logic in that one, but i would go too off topic, so feel free to inquire about that.

Either way, factor in how Mystery technically died in his youth, and how he came back after sniping Skull.

With all that in place, when Alfred uses the shinigami Scythe on Mystery when he is distracted enough, that would basically seal his fate.

Since Mystery is basically a shinigami, without a proper soul, he dies again and ceases to exist.

There will never be an afterlife for him. Which is also another reason I went through a lot of this lore development.

Mystery as a horrific person as well as somebody irreversiblly traumatized, I wouldn't want him to have an afterlife like other characters. It would feel wrong. In order for the world, living and dead, to heal and move on is through Mystery not having any remaining influence. It would also finally end what was Mystery’s lifelong misery and hatred forever. Win win.
