I really understand why they had to cut everyone’s grievances against Kenshin in Jinchuu arc’s villain team, but they did outline one character in particular as the figurehead for the evil dreamteam, and it was Hyogo the guy with the canon arm. The canon plays a huge part in destroying the Akabeko, downtown and the Maekawa dojo, and Kenshin’s main scene out of the evil dreamteam was with this guy. So it was really important to pack all that info into their one interaction--
I think it was essential for the film to tell us that Kenshin cut this man’s arm off.
That’s why he now has a gun-arm.
More than ten years ago, when he was 15, he cut this man’s arm clean off. Now he is pissed and back for revenge. That’s enough to encapsulate the entire rest of the team. I don’t know why they didn’t just tell us Kenshin cut Hyogo’s arm off. Their interaction and Hyogo begging for death doesn’t quite make sense if we didn’t get any semblance of why he is doing this - Kenshin cut off his livelihood, his craft, his career as a fighter and soldier, years of training in that arm gone - like imagine if Kenshin was de-armed and lost Hiten Mitsurugi ryu forever.
Not sure why the film would shy away from that violent revelation when in the next movie it goes ham showing us exactly how Kenshin killed and murdered his way to notorious fame. He bit a man’s ear off. He made it rain blood. Arm cutting should have been given to us in rk4.
