On Friday, I cut the ribbon on the first of three fish passages coming to the Bronx River. This “ladder” will allow river herring to swim uphill to cross the East 182nd Street Dam, allowing them to reach their spawning grounds for the first time since the dam was built in the 17th century! These passages will increase biodiversity in our waterways and provide another opportunity for the local community to experience nature at work in their urban backyards.
