ohhhhh my godddd i wanna make a video nerding the fuck out about the history of mrekk and malisz’s rivalry deep diving into each individual tournament run comparing their scores across every map in every round there’s so much fucking potential in that idea i’m so livid that people’s understanding of the narrative starts and ends with “coe 6-0 lul” YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT YOU’RE MISSING OUT ON

it’s peaks vs consistency but as their rivalry progressed the player with higher peaks could more consistently pop off when he needs to the most, but the one with better consistency was raising the bar for what even constitutes an "average" performance. after coe it felt like mrekk can just outperform maliszewski’s best whenever he chooses, but when you compare their owc performances you realize that malisz hasn’t reached his ceiling either; he can match or even outperform mrekk and make it look like another day in the office for him

by god the tension between these two going into every match, trusting in their greatest strength knowing full well the other player could easily destroy them even if they played their absolute best. that coe match was the first time either player had swept their rival, after going to tiebreaker in roundtable (and technically lga) & going to bracket reset in corsace closed 2023… and that’s not even getting into team tourneys
