Overworld Interactions (DM Tier 2) - Tag Force Special Re-Translation Update! (Project Announcement Post)

So, I've been up to quite a bit since I finalized my GX 133-134 subs (almost a month ago... I did plan to already start working on 135-136 already lol whoops), helping to get some research done for another project I hope to re-link into soon, but primarily working on my next batch of retranslating for TFSP, which here involved knocking out the overworld text for DM's Tier 2 characters (everyone from regular Yugi to the Meikyuu Brothers), as well as their corresponding in-duel text/stripe lines. Working through the story mode text file which includes their overworld text gets easier shifting into each world's Tier 2 and 3 characters since they have blanks where they would have lines for getting into duels and results from said duels as your Partner, so it works out that I can spend that extra time going through a slew of in-duel stripe lines, haha.

As of now:

Overworld text for the DM Tier 2 characters--Yugi, Anzu, Honda, Sugoroku, Pegasus, Bakura, Otogi, Kajiki, Haga, Malik, Dark Malik, Rishid, and the Meikyuu Brothers--is done! good god the original "translation" line for Jounouchi being made to partner with Haga

Their corresponding in-duel text lines are done (I had done Yugi, Anzu, Honda, and Sugoroku last update, but I revised a few things with them, and a few characters have new textlines for cards they have in their default decks and get voicelines for in DL that I'll be including in their voicepacks for the Deluxe version [like Yugi's Mirror Force]). For the Deluxe version, we're planning to revise a couple decks here/there to include cards that they already have default textlines for but for some reason don't already have in their default decks despite being notable cards for them??? (Hi Sugoroku and Ordeal of a Traveler...)

Drafts for their voicepacks for the later Deluxe version are started (but why did they have to change Honda, Otogi, and Malik so much for Duel Links 😭 Most characters' in-duel lines are mostly the same between TFSP and DL, but for characters like those three added into DL later into its run, they took some more liberties... So for those I'll be working with what I have between DL, Duel Terminal voicelines where applicable, and ripping from the anime and stitching together/touching up audio if needed to match the TFSP text as close as possible--but in cases where doing that would make for awkward audio, I'll likely use the DL line and update the textline for it as a last resort. [For the TF-exclusives I can't repurpose much audio for, I'll likely see about commissions.] The Meikyuu Brothers are also mostly different between TFSP and DL, but they've already been in prior TFs so I can use that audio for them--the issue is them not being updated for Synchro/Xyz/Pendulum-Summoning like the rest of the DM cast, along with more ace-card lines, but I'll sub in DL lines there--the slight rub is that Mei was recast for GX/TF but had his original VA brought back for DL; they do sound similar enough that using the latter lines sparingly shouldn't be too noticeable, but we'll see once I get to draft up a voicepack for him. Meanwhile, their textlines have been updated to include "I Synchro/Xyz/Pendulum-Summon" instead of the "Special-Summon" recycling they had going on as they didn't bother updating their textlines from like TF3)

A side update, but I've also been translating character bios on the side during my commutes to/from work or wherever, and I've currently gotten up to the Godwin Brothers in 5D's Tier 2 list; once I wrap up the story mode text, I'll likely shift to some deeper work on these to start working in what I've done so far.

So that should just about do it for this go-around; once I work on finalizing my GX 135-136 subs (and I may throw in 137 depending on mood, since I fell a bit behind and all lol), I'll work on the OW text for GX's Tier 2 characters (the text in the file goes by Tier order rather than the order in the List of Duelists for each series) and their corresponding in-duel stripe lines. I may also try to whip up a quick video showing off a few of the DM Tier 2s' in-duel lines. Stay tuned!
