I just watched kantara a legend chapter 1 and honestly it did not live up to its hype
I vividly remember watching the original kantara and being in awe of how the mundane life of the villagers came together with the divine aspects and how the main character was haunted by panjurli and guliga
But this time the movie felt like it was just a grand and exaggerated version of the divine aspect of the og film. It diverts too far from the simplicity and relatability of the first film.
I also did not like how the panjurli tradition is appropriated in the mainstream shaivite and vaishnavite tradition straying away from the fact that the bhoota kola is not a mainstream tradition or practice.
While I really appreciate the accuracy of historical detail in terms of the trade and geo politics I wish the civilized/uncivilized divide was dealt with in a better manner. It would have also been nice if the movie would've taken up resource use in urbanisation and settled agriculture as an issue for a while as opposed to the unnecessary and repetitive action and violence.
Overall I'd rate it a 7.5/10 only
