Rest in Heavenly Peace Stephen Ellis Garrett (November 11, 1974 – February 25, 2008)
Static Major wrote a lot of our favs (including but not limited to: Ginuwine's "Pony", Many of Aaliyah's hits such as "Try Again", "Are You That Somebody", "loose Rap" and more. Static also has song writing credits for songs like "Fade" by Kanye West, and "Jump" by Rihanna (and many more).
Static had a debut album that was set to be released n 2009 (called 'Suppertime') but, due to his death, the album was never released. There is a fan edition of 'Suppertime' that includes songs by Static Major on SoundCloud. Static Major has been featured on multiple posthumous releases, including songs by Drake, Jack Harlow, and Aaliyah.
DID YOU KNOW: Aaliyah and Static shared mutual feelings for one another, as noted by Barry Hankerson in the December 2008 issue of Vibe Magazine.
According to Static's mother, Edith Raymond (in a separate interview for VIBE magazine December 2008) “They were definitely an item. Aaliyah was crazy about him.” Tim Barnet would co-sign this (in the same magazine) that Garrett had a huge crush on Aaliyah. Although the song "Are You That Somebody" hints at their romance discreetly, they were relatively candid with Static's mother and reportedly with Aaliyah's parents as well. Edith further remarked, “He brought Aaliyah to my wedding. That was significant because her parents were quite strict about her outings.”
After Aaliyah's success with the song, calls came pouring in from artist like Destinys Child, Nas, Diddy, and even Jay Z.
