I remember when I first heard the news of Rick's death. I wasn't a Canucks fan when he was playing, but I knew about him. I remember talking about his depression with my dad before it was something that affected my life.. and it was tragic. My heart broke for this unbelievably strong player who ended it all.. and then I understood it. As I sunk into my depression, I got how the pain could build up until it feltĀ unbearable. Then, all I could think was how badly I wished it could have been prevented for him.. but he fought for so long. He was so brave.. always fighting. He's not here with us anymore, but because of his life, his strength and theĀ tremendousĀ tragedy that was his death.. the Canucks started mindcheck. To raise awareness about depression and to help.. and I just hope he knows up there just how many people he's gotten help, how many lives he will save. I will never forget the.. hope I felt watching that commercial when it was released. To see a hockey player standing up to talk about what people keep so quiet. Talking is important, supporting others is important. I don't know where I'm going with this.. but thank you, Rick. You will never ever be forgotten. Just.. rest in peace, big guy. <3
