4x19 Jump The Shark, Character Death; Adam Milligan

(NOTE: I am still somewhat of a fan, I liked Season 1 even tho it had pacing issues. And I genuinely enjoyed S2 until shit hit the bag)

Why is Vivienne’s writing sooo bad??? Like genuinely?? I feel as tho she does not flesh out her characters enough she continues to make one note villains.

Especially with this season when it appeared like we were gonna flesh out Lute’s character and her codependency issues.

Starting off with Adam, this guy has been around for as long as Lucifer and the best she can come up with is that he’s a raging misogynist (and possible rapist at this point). Like this man is old as balls, you would think he would have some type of character development in the years he’s been alive.

It would be so interesting to see how his view of humanity shifts with time as we get to see the true effect of free will on the people. Adding to the fact that LUCIFER is the one who gave people free will, yea it makes sense why he has issues with him.

Then we can rebuild his character as a sinner to develop faith in humanity again. And further explore his conflict with Lucifer, exposing secrets to Charlie about the true nature of her father.

(Or keep him an asshole, he’s still pretty funny then)

But it feels like a monumental waste and retcon to his character to be like this. Considering the fact that he’s only led the exorcists for 7 yrs, WTH has he been up to before that???

I feel like Vivzie has an issue of painting every issue black and white. We are supposed to herald Lucifer and condemn Adam (which we should do cuz he is a misogynist). But all characters have flaws that they can overcome. It’s the same way I see Stolas and Stella, where we need to baby one guy and objectively condemn the other since they are the evilest person on earth.

But if we really want to buy into this narrative of REDEMPTION, then people like Adam and Stella should have the ability to be redeemed. I think Charlie said it best.

Idk if she spent so long seeing her characters as a certain way. It took years for this show to come out, there must be a lot of background production stuff that I don’t know about. But the messaging is all over the place, and the characterization is garbage.
