Brian Cox (Major Michael Hogan), Daragh O'Malley (Sergeant Patrick Harper), and Sean Bean (Lieutenant Richard Sharpe) in the 1993 ITV production of Sharpe's Eagle, and adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's 1981 novel. This was the second episode in ITV's Sharpe series of television films.
Bean fans will be happy to know that he survives the entire series which, despite some budgetary restrictions, is well worth the watch. Not only is it extremely entertaining (and somewhat educational), but it's a hoot to spot all the guest-stars who went on to fame afterwards (i.e. Cox, Elizabeth Hurley, Pete Postlewhaite, Alice Krige, James Purefoy, and Paul Bettany to name a few)
And I cannot recommend enough author Bernard Cornwell's series chronicling the life of Richard Sharpe in His Majesty's Army. There are 24 books in the series (the latest, Sharpe's Storm, was just published in December), the bulk of which concentrate on his exploits during the Napoleonic Wars.
