Ribbot

One of the great things about a lot of these bots is that they’re not just about utilitarian design, a lot of them come in with flashy design, they’re there to make a statement both visually as well as technically. Like HUGE and Mammoth don’t need to have angry eyes, but they do.

And just look at DUCK!

It’s not just about fighting robots, it’s about having fun while doing it.

So imagine my surprise when Ribbot came out to play today and they went for a boring utilitarian design.

And they got killed instantly.

Who would’ve thought a new captain and losing all the soul in the design would make a robot perform worse.

For comparison this is what Ribbot has looked like in previous years in chronological order

And this is what it looks like now with a new team captain

And today’s airing of Battlebots showed this thing have a pitiful performance. Its egg beater spinner came completely apart basically on first hit and it lost by knockout in mere seconds.

As though in their attempt to make the robot as minimalist and boring as possible they also made it absolutely garbage.

I’m not saying looks matter but if you’re going to be using Ribbot, then don’t take away the legacy of Ribbot. It’s called Ribbot.

A portrait of Ribbot for today's pixel dailies theme. As I was drawing this it started to look a little creepy (which I honestly liked) so I decided to just lean into it
