đ for a moodboard about my museâs fashion style
This was fun and also kind of hard to just narrow it down to nine pictures - and donât be fooled; while thereâs a lot of black here, itâs an even mix of black and purple (or even white and purple) for her :D. Rhubenâs clothing style is laid back, but can also lean towards the dancerâs style. Plus, sheâs gotta have a leather jacket. (All the Jacksons do.)
Note: Two things are missing from this; galaxy print and black/white polka dots. Those are Rhubenâs two favorite patterns.

67. âOh my god! Youâre in love with them!â + rhuben and logan
Big Time Rush: Love Me Again / Prompt / LoganxRhuben
Oh my god! Youâre in love with them!
Rhuben took the time Stephanie and Camille gasped, leaning forward in their seats to let out a âNo way!â and âWhat?!â to lift her bottle of hard lemonade to her mouth, taking a long sip in lieu of confirming or denying the statement. Riley merely crossed one leg over the other, propping her heels up on Joâs coffee table. Jo had lifted her glass of wine in front of her mouth, as if trying to hold back her declaration upon getting to the bottom of why Rhuben wasnât as into girlâs night as usual: Stephanie, Camille, and Jo were the best girl friends she and Riley had ever had; they made it a point to make time in their busy schedules to meet up once every two weeks.
Of course the topic of boys would come up.
The word âstillâ should have been added in there, Rhuben surmised swirling her hard lemonade around in the bottle she grasped in her hand; âOh my god! Youâre still in love with them!â That would have been more accurate. She was 23 now, and she knew loving Logan now was different than when she had been 16, but those feelings were still there. When they had gotten stronger, she couldnât exactly say.
Could she even say she loved him years ago? Dating was just what you did at 16. If whatever strong feelings she had for him at the time was even close to love, it had felt nice, she couldnât lie. Nice enough to try and hold on to it as long as she could: being the only source of kindness, gentleness, and love she got outside of her family at the time. Even if it meant hurting her best friendâs feelings â betraying her best friend if she was really being honest with herself.
But she had grown up in the past seven years. They both had. Rhuben no longer relied on her need to be perfect in all areas of her life to get any sort of attention she could. Logan no longer used his intelligence to feel accepted and worthy. She no longer fantasized about a boy whisking her away from her life to save her, and he didnât set out to fix people and their problems.
They could just be themselves: confidants, shoulders to lean on, that tether to what your life used to be like, and still that one person that just got it. The one always willing to delve into nostalgia when things got too tough. The person you could always be yourself around. That was probably the scariest part of it for her: being that open with someone. Even if she had changed over the past few years, what if it still wasnât enough?
âIâve liked you since we were kids,â Logan had reassured her. âOf course youâre enough. Sometimes I wish we could just go back to that. It was just easier.â
âI couldnât do it,â Rhuben had replied, shaking her head back and forth, âgo back.â Loganâs eyebrows had pulled towards each other in response to her statement. âIâm not that little girl anymore, Logie,â she had explained. âI wouldnât be who I am if I didnât go through all that crap with Robert. I canât just pretend that it didnât happen. Not anymore. All thatâs done is cause bloody problems.â
âWell,â he had said after a moment of silence. She could see the gears turning in his head. âThere shouldnât be any problems now. With us. What do you think? About trying again?â
âMate, I donât want you to feel like itâs just something thatâs bound to happen,â Rhuben had replied. âBecause itâs easy. Because itâs what weâre supposed to do because weâve been through so much together.â Not like she hadnât done the same when they were younger.
âThatâs not what this is,â Logan had insisted, giving her a gentle smile. âI promise. Just think about it.â
It was the same smile that had caught her attention when she was younger. With those stupid dimples. And even stupider warm, brown eyes he used to look at you to show that he was listening to what you say. He may have finally relaxed, changed his style, grown more confident in himself, but he was still Logan. He was still impressively ambitious; working on his music all the while continuing his studies to be a doctor. He had goals he wanted to meet, knew how to work hard, and was above all else a big source of support to everyone he cared about.
And it had been all that was on Rhubenâs mind since then. Loganâs unwavering support and loyalty to his friends â through her abuse (though his need to study all the literature on the subject, only to regurgitate facts back to her did get annoying real fast) and with her music. His ability to make anyone feel like they mattered. Like they were being listened to. His overall sweet disposition. Even his psychotic moments (one could argue it was just his tunnel vision at work) was something that made him him.
All the same, Rhuben should have known she wouldnât be able to keep any of this past her friends: Riley she would tell right off the bat; Camille could pick apart peopleâs auras like it was her day job, she was bound to realize something was off about her; Jo had always been empathetic to other peopleâs feelings; and Stephanie, as an aspiring director, was able to pull emotions out of her friends with just a few questions.
âYeah,â she admitted after swallowing her sip of the crisp drink, âI am.â
One of the main reasons I'm excited to write more Big Time Rush is because it's a fandom where I can implement more changes for the Jacksons that Riley and I have been talking about for ages - more things that make sense to them, their characters, and how they change.
Not to mention I would have the Logan/Rhuben pairing work out better than I previously had it; Â a "they're childhood friends of course they'd fall in love" kind of thing. I think I really have it planned out well this time around.
Also, also Logan and Rhuben's ship was once referred to as Lella (because of Rhuben's full name and how Logan calls her Bella), then Lolla. Now I'm think Rhogan. Thoughts? Honestly, I think it just rolls off the tongue better.
What can you tell us about Riley and Rhuben that you haven't before? Their relationship with each other? Do they share friends? Do they have separate friends? Headcanons?
Something we havenât said before: Hmmm, I feel like we usually eventually bring it all up. Hmmm. Riley and Rhuben are so in tune with each other, they can easily navigate conversations away from topics they donât want to discuss for each other without really thinking about it. As well as have silent conversations with only a few movements of their faces to get something across to each other. Also, they can read minds so to speak; like without saying anything if one of them needed something, the other would just hand it over to them. On a different note, of course the girls love their parents, but Riley is more attached to their dad, and Rhuben is more attached to their mom.
Relationship with each other: Their relationship with each other depends on whether or not their parents are alive. If their parents arenât alive, they tend to stay apart from each other to get used to the fact that, if they were adopted, they would be split apart. It was inevitable, to them, that it would happen. So as much as they were there for each other, they worked to get used to life without each other. When their parents are alive, theyâre very close to each other, very similar to each other in their reactions to things, always love to be around each other, always have fun together, are very sneaky together, a little bit manipulative, and make each other laugh all the time. In both ways, itâs still very obvious that theyâre very close, but in the latter scenario they can show it more. (In the former scenario, they move into being like the latter when things start to go right for them).
Share/Separate friends: They mostly do share friends as they mostly meet new people together. Not to say that they really see themselves as a âpackage dealâ but itâs how things usually turn out. Even if they did have separate friends, they would all end up being one large friends group either with each other, or with all the Jackson kids. Separate friends are usually part of things they do separately. By that I mean, the whole Jackson family does surf and enjoy it and love it, but Riley is really the surfer in the family, having some people she can go and see at the beach and spend time with them if she ever finds herself going it alone. Just like on the other hand, Rhuben is the one more often to find pickup games of soccer to join, usually ending up with a specific group of people sheâd hang out with.
Headcanon:
-As competitive or independent as Riley and Rhuben are, they hate the idea of one of them being left behind
-A lot of their first thoughts when one can âget aheadâ in some way is âwhat about my sister?â
-Even as babies they would get fussy if one of them was taken out of the room for whatever reason
-If theyâre apart for a while and come back together, they always greet each other exuberantly, and immediately start to catch up on things - even if itâs only for a couple hours
-Both girls can silently resent the other for feeling like they have to take on a certain role/responsibility the other wonât
-Rhuben records and edits all of Rileyâs surf reels - both in the water and on the beach, to not only highlight what she does best, but to get a closer look at what to work on - as a result at surf competitions she knows exactly how close sheâs allowed to be to get footage
-Riley is always the loudest cheerleader at Rhubenâs soccer games, youâll hardly find her without some sort of sign, pom-poms, or facepaint
-Theyâre actually very protective of each other in terms of boyfriends and friendships, in that they wonât tolerate anyone treating the other badly - even if it takes a while for it to get through why theyâre worried
-Itâs never their dad or their brothers their potential dates/boyfriends have to worry about, itâs their twin
-In every place theyâve lived they either share a room or have their own room with a pocket door to connect it
-They share all of their clothes if itâs not strictly in their color and/or, to the point they donât buy much clothes without the other in mind
-They always have nights where they stay up late and just talk about things that bother them within themselves or other people (it can be hard, but they donât take it personally)
-They donât hold hands or hug a lot, almost not at all, but at times will squeeze each otherâs hands three times to silently say âi love youâ and then the other do it four times to say âi love you, tooâ
-Theyâre each otherâs best friend and biggest supporters
-Almost donât ever make any decisions without talking to the other, no matter how easy or difficult the decision is
-Can finish each otherâs sentences
-Gives each other piggy-back rides often
-Will sometimes dress exactly the same to test people on whether or not people can tell them apart
-Some of their boyfriends had mixed them up before
-Wakeboarding trips to the lake benefits them both; wakeboarding is Rhubenâs water sport of choice (though she can and does surf), Riley can also use that time to wakesurf to keep her skills up if the ocean is too flat
-Even if a photo shoot or interview/magazine is focusing on one of them, they always have their twin there for support (and letâs be honest here, god knows Patrick, Noah, and Sydney would want to come too, just because)
-As close as the girls can be, they. can. fight. However there have only been a handful of arguments they werenât able to get over quickly. Usually itâs something they can get over once both sides are heard.
âWhen I was little, my mum would take me to see the orchestra, tell me to close my eyes and think about the story the music was telling. I always spoke about colours. I'd talk about how purple the oboe was.â

Iâll go more into the Jackson family dynamic in this case. So, here we go!

Reed and Renee, when we write them alive, are their kidsâ inspiration to the type of relationships they want to eventually end up in. They truly do love each other. Despite their arguments, and they can argue, they end the day united. Theyâre always touching each other in some way, or just being in the vicinity of each other. Itâs not rare to see them cuddling or kissing, or even reading the same book together as things wind down for the night.
The family is essentially a equal mix of laid back, loud, and fun (from Reed), and disciplined, calm, and straight-laced (from Renee). Themed nights such as game nights, movie nights, bbq nights, pool nights, beach nights etc are a regular occurrence. At the same time, they work just as hard as they play. The kids know the second theyâre home from school homework needs to be done at the table and checked over by their mom, daily chores are done as soon as homework is accepted; weekend chores are done right after breakfast on the weekends, and music practice at home is never ever skipped or shortened.
No topic is truly off limits in the Jackson household. A ânoâ is always accompanied with an explanation (most times after a whining âwhyyyâ, or huffing, and stomping feet), or they could get a âI donât think youâre ready to hear that,â response. The kids do have the chance to âappealâ a decision only if they can come up with a good argument for why they feel they should be able to do something. A lot of the time, it doesnât work.
Over the years, the family has owned five dogs, one cat, and one rabbit.
In terms of their other family members thereâs Reedâs parents Tate and Rose Jackson along with his brother Talon and Talonâs daughter Lennon. For a while we have him as a single father, havenât given an auntâs name or ever really determined what happened to her. We only know Talon and Lennon. But on Reneeâs side her parents are Hiroki and Autumn Himada, Reneeâs twin sister Kristin, married to Christian Manning with daughter and son Crystal and Aaron (owned by @ceruleanmusings) and then Reneeâs and Kristinâs little sister, Selena and her daughter Samantha (owned by @knocking-down-hesitation)
how was the jackson family created? and what's their backstory? :D
Thanks for the ask! We love talking about our babies. We could go on and on, so this is a decent lengthed post - and we did take a different route with answering your second question. Which is why itâs under a read more.
Weâre just sorry we donât do much with them on here, but are moving into doing more (and re-working our OC page), and answering questions and everything.
Letâs get started!

So! The Jackson are the first OCs we ever created without really know what OCs were. Because, at the time, fifth grade, we were just writing separate stories for ourselves, very, very loosely based on ourselves, but our characters had our names - because duh. (And itâs fun to write about yourself in different situations.)
Anyway, first it started off as writing fanfics - though we didnât know what fanfic was at the time and was introduced to it later - like with Pokemon or Digimon but with ourselves added into it, but at the same time we were also just writing original stories. When we talked to each other about the original stories, we came to find we wrote about the same family dynamic - two parents, older daughter and younger son. We both named the younger son, Patrick.
Then we decided to write the characters together. We made the two older daughters twins, kept Patrick and gave him a twin named Noah (because theyâre both one of our favorite boysâ names), and then rounded out the family with a baby brother named Sydney - because itâs another of our favorite boysâ names and we really want to go to Australia one day.(As a side note: First it was just those five. Then later on (years later after writing a bunch of fanfics), we added an older brother named Julius. We donât write him as often, a lot of the time explaining heâs more of a secondary character, but heâs just as important with the family and how weâve written and changed these characters over the 10+ yeas weâve had them.)+-+
Once we had these five characters established, and knew what fanfiction was, we decided to start putting them into our favorite fandoms. First it started with 3 Ninjas and branched out from there; putting in fandoms we thought theyâd fit in: Mighty Ducks, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Hananh Montana, iCarly, Johnny Kapahala, Big Time Rush, Just My Luck/Busted/McBusted, and those are the ones I just remember. By doing so, they became our main multifandom OCs.
(Second side note: Weâre cringing so hard, but we also have to acknowledge that at the time of creating our OCs, we were really into anime at the time, and would also write for fandoms like Yu-Gi-Oh, InuYasha, and Yu Yu Hakusho. So when we first created our OCs, they went by: Rikku Hiroshima, Rumiku Hiroshima, Patrick âSparkyâ Hiroshima, Noah âPhysicâ Hiroshima, and Sydney Hiroshima. They had red hair (Riley) and blue eyes, Silver hair (Rhuben) and violet eyes, Yellow hair (Patrick) and blue eyes, Silver hair (Noah) and violet eyes, and Blue hair (Sydney) and blue eyes. Depending on the fandom, they also had abilities they could weild, in a series we called âElementalsâ - because who doesnât love canon characters in an AU where theyâre the chosen ones and weild powers - Rileyâs was fire, Rhubenâs was darkness, Patrickâs was thunder, Noahâs was SilverWind, and Sydneyâs was spirits).
-
As for their backstory, it really did start only as angst for angst sake. We needed a reason for them to move from Australia to America and have a reason for them to interact with the main canon characters of whatever fandom we put them in. Parents dying in a fire. Abusive parent. We really piled it on. However:
Around this time, a LOT of people (ourselves included) were doing song-fics or had songs as titles as fics. You know the ones âWelcome to My Life,â âNumb,â âBehind Blue Eyes,â those kinds of things. Listening to songs like that, (weâre big fans of LP and Simple Plan) we decided to give them the background of their parents dying in a house fire, being adopted (this was the original idea, we changed it to being put into foster care) by an abusive man who moved them to America - unsurprisingly, to whatever locale the fandom was set in - under the guise of being in a touring family band.
Plus, we love music and love finding new music and giving any excuse to write about music and bands, and meeting our favorite musicians (and maybe falling in love with our favorite musicians) was fun. With âbandfictionâ fandoms like Big Time Rush, and Just My Luck, it was easy to keep that as an important part of the Jacksons as a whole.
Anyway, in our fics, the main canon characters would either be a fan of, or be introduced the to family band, meet them, slowly become friends with them, start to piece together something was wrong leading to a confrontation all the while having Riley and Rhuben fall in love with whichever two guys we liked the most from the show. For a while, this was the formula for whatever new fics we wrote/new fandoms we wrote in. And at the time, the âdarknessâ and âedgienessâ and âbadassnessâ and âI curse and am rude to you all the timeâ of our OCs was waaaaaay over the top, admittedly.
Our OCs, as mentioned above, were first introduced with their âjapanese namesâ as we always knew thier mother was Japanese-American (and had the name Ruriko, choosing the American name Renee), and their father, was Australian (named Tate, but usually goes by his middle name Reed). We wised up, learned more about the Japanese culture and changed our OCs Japanese names to Seiji Himada/Sydney Jackson, Padi Himada/Patrick Jackson, Noburu Himada/Noah Jackson, Rikku Himada/Rilandon âRileyâ Jackson, and Rumiku Himada/Rhubella âRhubenâ Jackson - though we donât refer to them this way, anymore. Himada was their motherâs surname before marrying Reed. After a bit we just stuck with their English names, focusing more on the fact that they were Australian - because, again, weâve always wanted to travel to Australia, and so we took the time to research, and watch videos, read blogs, etc etc as much as possible to learn as much as we could.
All in all, we like to say our âweeb-liteâ and emo phases never manifested in real life because we put it all into our characters. (Thank god)
Basically, their backstory is this: Rocket Scientist Reed Jackson, and stay-at-home-mom/teacher/Reedâs assistant, Renee Jacksonmet in college at NYU and quickly fell in love with each other. They moved to Australia to start their family and had Julius. They used IVF to have Riley and Rhuben three years later (wanting a girl), Patrick and Noah three years after that (wanting to have another boy), and Sydney came naturally five years after that. Julius is 11/12, Riley and Rhuben are 9, Patrick and Noah are 6, and Sydney is a little over 1 year old when their house suddenly burst into flames one night. Whether it was an electrical fire, a flash over, arson, what have you, isnât discovered until later. But their parents, are killed in the fire. Julius was the one to lead his brothers and sisters out of the house, but went back in when he realized he couldnât find his parents outside - because they were still in the house looking for their kids, not knowing they were safe outside. Julius manages to make it back outside, but in the resulting chaos, is hit by a car and taken to the hospital, separating himself from his brothers and sisters - and resulting in his lasting memory issues as he gets older. After the death of their parents, the Jacksons had the opportunity to go live with their grandparents on their dadâs side, who were older and only had the time/patience/ability to care for one child so they took Julius, or their Uncle on their fatherâs side, who was too distraught with grief and anger to want to take his nieces and nephews in. Family on Reneeâs side couldnât be reached, so they went into foster care. Robert was the only one who wanted to take all five of them and once he did, he moved them to America - though the stresses of being a single parent was too great for him and he took it out on his children.
-
Over the 10+ years weâve had these characters, we toned down the more angsty (*Cough* over the top *cough*) things, turned up all of our OCs differing personalities and how they mesh with and pull against each other and canon characters, adding more lasting issues from their abuse such as bipolar disorder, selective mutism, eating disorder, their differing idea of what love is and how they go about getting it, and a whole lot more to make them more realistic characters.
Recently, weâve also started thinking, âWhat would they be like if their parents were still alive?â âWould they still be this way?â âWould they still act like this?â and started deciding on which fandoms would still have their parents around (at the moment, itâs only the 3 Ninjas fandom).
But we love these characters to death. Characters who have their faults, but you want to root for, and who truly love their friends and family, and stumble and fall as they move to their goals of having a happy life. And weâre glad others like them and have been a part of thier journey and growth whether readers were there from the beginning or found out about them partway through.
We know they were once more popular characters weâve had, and we have moved on to writing our more recent OCs, but thatâs ok. We still love them. Weâre insanely proud of how weâve had them grow and change over the years. And weâre glad people like or have liked them.
Rhuben's trying to get comfortable with her body and Riley's trying to be comfortable with her mind?
Yes! It both boils down to building their self-esteem and it also coincides with what they deem to be important to them. What I mean by that is Riley wants to be liked and Rhuben wants to be loved.
Riley knows that with her bipolar disorder, a scary side of her can be shown. One that people would never see if she could help it. She can be rash, she can be rude, she can be loving, she can be arrogant but that is all how she chooses to be. When she's in a manic state, it's nothing she can control; she's not in control of how people perceive her. She doesn't want anyone to view her as a monster. So she takes care of everyone, makes sure they're safe, being heard, makes the decisions so others don't have to make rough decisions (though honestly a lot of that is put on her right off the bat as the oldest), etc to have others see her how she wants them to see her. This, however, is also a detriment to her mental health.
It's not so much that Rhuben thinks that a man can fix her problems/build her self-esteem. Ultimately she knows she has to work on how she views herself on her own. But first physical appearances are what a lot of people go by and it's a big part of her job. Controlling her eating is something easy for her to do to give herself more time to get done everything people put on her; to have others precieve her as the one who can do it all, and do it well, and to make it look easy. People love the responsible one; the one who can be given a task and have it done at the deadline. And Rhuben likes that validation.
There's another post where, I think, I went into this a bit more but I'm having a bit of triuble finding it at the moment.
