And calmly asks her if she pilots the Eva purely to seek others' approval....which is 100% correct

I like this because it's the only time we see Rei actively challenge Asuka rather than the other way around. Her remark doesn't even have anything to do with what Asuka's doing now specifically, it's just a question meant to insult and devalue her because Rei can't stand her taking Shinji's life for granted during such a critical moment. Afterwards Misato tells both of them to cut it out, but Rei, the emotionless doll who always follows orders, is still eyeing Asuka

I don't think we ever again see Rei flat out be passive aggressive to someone
