itâs half past two am when they finally leave the club. jaeâs sobriety is the only thing keeping sera from falling flat on her ass. she sways around and he keeps a tight grip on her, with his arm around her torso, keeping her close. heâs always been like this, protective and careful whereas sera is the reckless, impulsive one. they compliment each other in a way. they always look out for each other and tonight is not exception.
she could have never seen this coming.
â jaaaee~~ do you think, maybe, â she throws an arm up and points at the moon overhead. â someday i can visit there? â drunken laughter escapes her and she turns her body, latching onto his arm and squeezing it tight against her. she gets like this when she drinks -- itâs awful, disgusting, this affectionate behavior that she shows. he doesnât mind though -- he never did.
the last thing on her mind tonight is her massive debt.
when they pass one of the many alleyways, neither of them spot the group of four men that step out from the shadows. all dressed in dark colors, gloves to hide their prints, but they leave their faces uncovered because they arenât worried about their faces being etched in either sera or jaeâs memory.
in fact, theyâd rather them both remember their faces. so that when they see them out, theyâll be reminded of this night and theyâll remember the threat they pose.
they act quickly, but their footfalls are silent to sera and jaeâs ears. it isnât until she feels a hand gripping, twisting and pulling on her hair that she knows theyâre there. she loses her grip on jaeâs arm, and sheâs being dragged back, bewildered, confused and terrified. it only takes one of them to handle her, heâs twice her size and sheâs inebriated. she canât fight against his strong grip on her, but sheâs screaming, wanting her voice to be heard so that others can find them.Â
the three others stand as a wall between jae and sera, shoulder to shoulder with their fists clenching at their sides. âdonât try anythinâ funny. just turn around and act like you never saw any of this. â one of them says, giving him the opportunity to leave before heâs sucked into all of this too.Â
â what the fu --Â â she doesnât get anything more than that out when she feels a hand on her mouth, keeping her quiet.
â youâre late. â the man tells her, and she goes wide-eyed, knowing this regards the money she borrowed from them a week back. she feels him twisting her arm, pulling it at a painful angle that makes her scream in agony against his gloved palm.
iâm sorry, she wants to say, because now jae is apart of this mess thatâs all her doing to begin with.
