To-Do List
So the first order of business here is simple: a to-do list. This is actually lifted from my Google Doc, but I can’t do that formatting here on Tumblr, so this is going to be a bit confusing. I’ll make a separate post where it’ll just be the list, but I’ll post this first as an explanation for most of the list. This list goes as follows:
Genetic Overhaul
World Building
Expand Clan rules and relationships
Expand individual Clan lore
Explore territory settings
Language creation
Starclan and Place of No Stars complete reboot
Create a set timeline
Character Switches + Additions
Expanding family trees to make more sense
Adding more characters that are consistent
Develop background/secondary characters
Rewrite villains
Fix most characters
Outside Forces
Twoleg growth
Explanation of Loners/Rogues
Expansion on Kittypets/Barn cats
Skyclan?????
Other animals
Cats
Create a more solid life expectancy with milestones
Add a more realistic aging system
Decide on anthropomorphism
Individual Books
I feel as many of these are pretty self-explanatory, so I’ll only explain the ones that seem a bit odd to me. If anyone has any questions on any point, feel free to just ask! But let’s get into it.
In terms of world building, I felt as if Firestar had set it up perfectly in the first books when he asked why the clans couldn’t just live together. In the main series books, there’s not much separating the clans culturally except ‘there are four trees, four seasons, and the riverclan cats like to swim.’ I always thought that there should be more meat to it. The same point goes to territory settings. I like the idea of the forest and lake each have almost separate biomes that each clans lives in. Next is the language creation. That’s actually something I just kind of want to do on the side. It’s not entirely important, but I feel as if it adds some life to the clans. It’s marked as lowest priority, so it’s not much to worry about. Starclan and PONS are honestly two of the hottest messes in the series and I can’t stand to read about either at this point. Neither follow the same rule system from book to book much less arc to arc. So I'm going to completely rewrite both. I’m going to do a separate post on the timeline issue, so watch out for that post this week.
Character switches and additions I feel are fairly easy to comprehend. They’ve been something that’s always been talked about with the series and they’re probably most people’s biggest beefs with the series.
So the outside forces part is a bit odd. I want there to be enough information on the outside creatures that they aren’t completely unknown but little enough so that they’re still something strange and foreign. I honestly think that’s the best way I can describe them. Skyclan and Bloodclan are both going to play way bigger roles in my rewrite than either do in canon. They’ll each be getting large posts in the future.
Cats. The series has a weird relationship with the animals it’s supposed to be about. I always thought that there was never any solid grasp on anything about cats in the series. So I’m going to take it upon myself to really set standards that the characters live by in terms of life expectancy and psychology. They’re still cats, after all.
That’s probably as deep as I’m getting today. I have a little injury while skateboarding so my right hand is all torn up and sore. More to come in the following week!
Follow for more updates and remember that my asks are open. So if there are any questions, feel free to ask and I’ll get to it ASAP!
