does anybody know anything (or have any headcanons) about revonnahganders' clothing? specifically in regards to where the creators may have gotten inspiration for their clothing? im thinking china or at least asia but i don't know what exact time period (or if im even right lol)
Lor reminded me I haven’t done shit about alliances had by the Osmosian Empire, and I don’t have the brain power nessecary today to go into them really (there’s only a handful of major ones, but still, not a big brain day) but I can describe the, well, more a business arrangement the Empire has with Revonnah.
Y’all remember how Revonnah has muroids? Those big armored rodenty things that in the wild act as a pest animal? The ones that could easily outweigh Rook?
Well 98% of the time they’re not any more an issue than foxes are on Earth. But occasionally you get a population explosion.
Those things are bad enough when the rodents in question aren’t the size of a person.
As you can guess, when the wild muroid population skyrockets, it’s not a fun time for anyone. Especially since they and Revonnahganders are the largest predators left on a lot of Revonnah. Normally they’re kept in check by a tendency by the young to supplement their diets with their siblings, but during an especially bountiful year a whole litter of six can survive and suddenly the damn things outnumber your community by a digit.
It tends to be a Situation, is what I’m getting at. But! The Revonnahganders have found an ace in the hole!
Osmosians exist. And they are an even bigger bitch that muroids. And they have hunting as a profession.
The Empire can and will send out hunting parties when the need arises. They can and they will get that population back to manageable levels within a good timeframe and the cost of the whole mess is usually housing for the hunters and the carcasses of the dead muroids, which will then be divided up between the hunters, their packs, and the Empire.

“How many recipes for fish can one man own?!”
Rook was starting to regret coming to Kevin for help. There was a Revonnahn holiday coming up where part of the traditional celebrations involved consuming fish- a rare treat given the region he’d been raised in. Unfortunately, he’d quickly realized he wouldn’t be able to get ahold of several of the key ingredients that went into the dish he’d eaten every year of his life prior to becoming a Plumber and was going to be forced to improvise. Turning to Kevin had seemed a logical answer at the time- he was the only one of Rook’s friends who cooked, and between his history and his being a hybrid there were good chances he had a recipe or two he’d already had to modify to be made with ingredients available on Earth. It was a reasonable assumption to make and a reasonable decision to make.
Now, as the fourth beat-up collection of recipes was pulled out of a closet and placed on the table in front of him, he was wondering if maybe he should’ve gone to one of the Magisters instead.
“Oh this is nothing,” Kevin replied offhandedly as he went back to rifling through his legions of books. “Papa Luka has most of the Levin recipes, these are just collections of the ones me, Argit, and some of the others like best. Plus a few I’ve modified to work better for Cooper, Manny, and Mike. And of course those two are both from my mom’s side of the family- great-grandma made a mean lox and there’s a trout recipe in there that I’m pretty sure is half the reason my mom managed to marry at all.” He went quiet for a moment, murmuring to himself as he searched for something. “This is for a holiday, right? How do you guys feel about cheese? Because if I can find it I’ve got a great collection of holiday fish recipes.” Rook was glad the other man’s back was turned so he couldn’t see his confused gaping.
“I do not think fish would be traditional, no….” Tutting, Kevin shook his head.
“Shame. Haven’t been able to figure out a kosher equivalent, but given how my sibs like it I really think you’d enjoy a good essos.”
For now at least, he was just going to take his word for it.
