Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Tecna, and she was bored. Actually, it was more often than not that Tecna was bored, and bored Tecna was not a good Tecna. Bored Tecna took both machines apart for the sake of experimental rebuilding (which often led to explosions), and people apart for the sake of their annoyance. The pink-haired witch had garnered a reputation from a very young age, though it was not for simply being the Witch of Technology, as she might have had she been born in any of the other dimensions (Zenith was a civilized place, where anti-discrimination laws were strictly enforced). Instead, it was because Tecna looked at things, processed almost everything, and then knew things. A glance at a classmate’s shoes, and she could say where they had been recently, and if they had been running or walking. A scan of a teacher’s level of personal care, and she could paint a very accurate picture of their home life. It was unsettling, and people avoided her.
Tecna’s parents, Electronio and Magnethia, did not know what to do with her. They tried everything in the books and on the web, but they could not get their little girl to care about school or much of anything, really. She learned extremely quickly and got bored easily. She hated doing homework (boring), and she drew irrelevant diagrams for her own personal projects on her tests, so her grades were abysmal. She found children her age petty (and boring), and she experimented on any pets that were placed in her care, so she had no friends. In fact, the only thing that she really cared about were her experiments. Finally, Electronio called up a friend who worked at a university and asked her to take Tecna as an apprentice, since a traditional learning environment did absolutely nothing for her.
Tecna absorbed anything and everything her apprenticeship had to offer. The professor specialized in computer technology and preventing cyber-attacks, so she became a computer genius who was able both to protect her own projects from being tampered with by means of the latest firewalls and other technologies, and to hack into other people’s projects with utmost subtly and the most brutal force she desired. No one thought that Tecna was capable of respecting anyone, but it was clear that her relationship with this professor was the closest she would get.
But then Tecna got bored again. She needed more, not just computers, and the professor recognized it, even if Tecna herself did not. So, her professor spoke to her about pursuing the magical side of her education. It was surprising to everyone that the strange genius Tecna had never considered leaving the realm of Zenith to attempt to cure her boredom. Tecna defended herself with the notion that Zenith was clearly the most developed dimension in the magical dimensions, and therefore everywhere else must be infinitely more boring, but her professor convinced her nonetheless. She received her acceptance to Cloud Tower, and was assigned by her professor to observe the general, ignorant human and to figure out why they were so oblivious and transparent. Electronio, Magnethia, and her professor bade her farewell, and Tecna departed from the familiarity of Zenith to the strange (and most likely completely dull) world of Magix.
