I think it should be noted that otomes feature a primarily male cast to romance. If the female heroine is romancing a cast of other females, that's a different genre.

And, as odd as this is going to sound, I don’t consider a game where you can play as any gender and/or date any gender to be an otome game either. Otome is exclusively female heroine/MC and male love interests. Bishoujo game/Galge is exclusively male hero/MC and female love interests. Girl’s Love/Yuri is exclusively female heroine/MC and female love interests. Boy’s Love/Yaoi is exclusively male hero/MC and male love interests.

It's true most of the castle items are odd in general LOL. I was interested in the bananas specifically since my friend and I were arguing about Hideyoshi eating bananas and remembered Sakuya's castle lmaooo. Thank you so much for your response!

It seems like it had been a somewhat rare commodity, since it doesn’t last like castella or konpeitou. Frois himself was the one who wrote that he presented Nobunaga with bananas, but ti doesn’t seem he said anything about giving Hideyoshi any, so... unless Nobunaga shared the banana with his retainers, I guess not...

Oh, to add. I just remembered that there’s possibility of bananas being more widespread in Okinawa. Some traditional Okinawa clothing are made of “banana fibre”. I have not found how far back does this tradition go, so it's possible it’s not around in the Sengoku era.
