The Poems I Love // Pier Giorgio Di Cicco
These are the poems that I love. They run up to your house announcing Xmas, three months before the fact, and apologize for nothing They are so dim-witted they would bring you lilacs instead of roses. They haven't got the colour of the sky right, but they know your name. They stand to be corrected, and they don't understand anything my lean and barefoot poems. They come up to your doorstep; they want to be taken for a coffee, taken for a walk. Come out, woman, these are the ones that hurt you not at all. These are the lowly thankful ones, the lovers with no arms; they want to be turned away, as everything should be in its time. They leave no tracks, only a graciousness. What they leave you with is an embrace and a want that will make you wish to take the whole world in, if not now then in a thousand years, you will want to kiss every star in heaven. The poems I love, are only children on verandah steps. You will remember them, and miss them like the loveliness that made you mine.
