Sometimes it happens, as the generations pass, that past students of the university have died. It is the way of life and nothing to be feared. You are not forgotten. Indeed, the university has a long memory and no student is ever forgotten. Even the stones can remember the weight of your steps, carried on over years and imprinting with what your footfalls add to your essence.

Sometimes it happens, when a new year begins and fresh students walk the grounds of the university. They find faculty they have never met welcoming them back. They find themselves able to navigate the shifting hallways with a familiarity of senior students. Even the stones they walk on ring distant memories that have no origin. The stones remember them too, and welcome back these returning students.

PERSONAL HISTORY

Hudson is a name that has been around since America was a string of colonies. Originally settlers in Connecticut, Finn’s great-great-great-great-great grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War and was letter a ratifier of the Constitution. From there, Hubert Hudson built a timber empire that has lasted to modern day. Diversifying the portfolio, the Hudson family grew over time, expanding into many businesses and furthering accumulating their wealth. Currently, Hudson Industries is focused on next generation weapons development and is quite proud of being one of the 20 wealthiest families in the world. Finn’s father, Christopher, is the current CEO of Hudson Industries after the shocking, untimely death of his grandfather. 

For Finn, the pressure is now on as he knows that he will be expected to follow the family legacy into business and one day take over Hudson Industries. That pressure exists, mainly in grades and reputations but at the same time, Finn is too busy being a spoiled teenage boy. Anything he wants, he gets. Money is no object to him and even at school, with the rules and curfews, Finn is still extravagant in everything he does. Being a rich, legacy has also afforded too much forgiveness to Finn. He’s wild, unable to really tie himself down and has dipped his toe into both the pools of boys and girls. At some point he needs to grow up but given that this is his senior year, he isn’t bothered with it. An Ivy is in his future and the only thing he cares about is making sure he drafts a rookie that gives him the glory.

SCHOOL HISTORY

Finn is a legacy student. The Hudson’s are not only Connecticut natives but Wallace Hudson was in the first ever graduating class of Academy of St. Alexander’s in 1750 and since then . There was never a question about whether or not Finn would be there

Meeting all the other non-traditional students and giving them peace of mind that we are a good core community at UCLA! I talked with so many of you, heard so many great stories, hopefully I gave you all the best advice I could give, and some tips and tricks to making the adjustment and what it'll be like to be a NonTrad Bruin, but I had such a great time and I thank each and every one of you for coming by my table and coming up to me in Kerckhoff!

One of the best parts was when one gal in her 60’s and I were talking and she mentioned how isolated she felt until she saw me and a few other adults that weren't parents! I introduced her to two 50 yo women that I had met earlier in the day and the rest of the day all 3 pal’d around together and took STOMP day on in force.

It’s hard to be alone, to be isolated, to feel like there is no one in the room that understands you, and that you are being judged by everyone you come across. Some feel like they are invading someone else’s territory and that makes them feel even more like an outsider, even more like an intruder.
