When I was 11 or so, I was a spoiled, overprivileged brat who thought that I was better than the other kids b/c I liked to read and they didn't.
By the time I was 15, I was a depressed, edgy teenager who spent a lot of time scribbling poetry in whatever my current notebook was. I considered myself to be an anarcho-primitivist. I left these comments on various blogs and the like that were just inscrutable, like I would have some point somewhere but would add so many weird qualifications and references that anyone reading would have just been like "What is he talking about?"
When I read writing from my middle school self, I want to punch him. When I read any of the writing that I still have today from my high school self, I just feel a sense of fondness. Who was this kid? Why did he say things like this? Well, he got where he was going eventually.
Lesson: depression is good actually.
