ABS-CBN Film Restoration has announced the completion of the 4K scan and minor fixes of the 1973 classic comedy film, directed by Celso Ad. Castillo and co-written by Francisco V. Coching and Federico Javinal. Pedro Penduko is a fictional comic book character created by Coching and Javinal, who first appeared in Liwayway magazine in 1954. The first actor to portray the character was Efren Reyes, Sr. In the second and third films, Ramon Zamora, known as the "Bruce Lee of the Philippines," took on the role, starring alongside Panchito, Eddie Garcia, and Lotis Key (who is now recognized as the adoptive mother of Wesley So, a chess grandmaster from the Philippines).
Synopsis
Pedro Penduko is a clumsy, awkward, and timid man who is constantly pressured by his overbearing father to think about his future. Despite his awkwardness, he is beloved by the children in the community, who enjoy his captivating stories about Filipino mythological creatures. Pedro also tries to win the heart of Luningning, a beautiful maiden in the neighborhood. One day, while seeking new opportunities away from home, Pedro’s boat capsizes, and he is saved by a mermaid. His father and neighbors believe he has perished, but Pedro returns alive, much to their surprise. Meanwhile, the mermaid who saved him fell in love with his kind heart. The mermaid is being chased by his father's enemies and Pedro is now wanting to save her
