On the Topic of Punishment and Rehabilitation for Dream
/rp
"Dream deserves to be punished but not with what's happening in the prison!"
I often see that sentence and have said it many times myself and people often ask
"If not prison, what could you punish him with?"
So I sat down and thought of some punishments which are fair and not cruel, which could also lead to Dream's mental state getting better and maybe even rehabilitation:
// Before I start: I am no expert. I have taken a few psychology courses but I am no expert in prisoner management, criminality, nor do I have expertise in being a prisoner, a police officer, or someone who works at a prison. I got all these information from the internet and things I know my country does! This is all my opinion.
This post was made with the help of @owlyspirit @dreamsclock and @resonating-kitty !!! Thank you! //
Community Service: (A lot of prisons already to that and some people actually get sentenced to community services.) All of these should be with a person from the prison, for example a guard, so they can make sure Dream does what he is supposed to, doesnât run away but at the same time keeps him safe from monsters and other players. Dream shouldnât have armor (maybe lether) but he gets tools lent from the guard, which he has to return after he is finished.
Filling in creeper holes.
Repairing the Prime Path (Same colored wood, filling up gaps)
Destroying half cut down trees.
Taking down ruined buildings (with allowance from the owner)
Repairing ruined buildings (with the allowance from the owner)
First of all, these measurements get Dream out of his cell. He can move again, feel fresh air in his lungs and see sunlight again. What it also does is that other people see Dream doing good. Most people see Dream was this villain character and seeing him repair stuff, help the community can slowly change their attitude towards him.
Animals: (a lot of prisons have the inmates taking care of animals. It helps them socialise and responsibility for another living being) I think this is extremely important in the case of Dream, who has cut off all his attachment. All of these are again under supervision.
Let him have a farm. He can distribute milk or lether to the community. (Those are his animals and whether he wants to share the products of the animals should be in Dreamâs hands.)
Help Antfrost with his animal farm. (with Antfrostâs consent)
Dream gets called when animals run away
He helps them gather new animals or transport them from one place to another.
Helps rebuilding Tubboâs Beedome, which he helped destroy. (with Tubboâs consent)

He learns that attachment can be beneficial and healing. The animals will be dependant on Dream and Dream will be depending on the animals. Itâs once again good that other people can see Dream being careful with other living beings and helping them if they need it. Taking care and not destroying.
Materials:
Dream can collect materials with a guard for the community.
Example: Puffy needs more bricks for the community house, so she goes to one of the guards and writes her name and what she needs down in a list. She can say if she wants Dream to do it alone (still with the guard) or if she wants to come with them. She also notes down a deadline.
The guards make sure those deadlines are kept by Dream but are also responsible that it is not too much. It can be easily abused so the guards have to make sure the tasks are reasonable.
No armor/weapons:
Dream shouldnât be allowed to wear heavy armor or weapons. I think itâs reasobale to allow him to wear some sort of protection, maybe enchanted leather armor with curse of binding. I think he should also be allowed something like a stone/iron axe, so just in case he can protect himself and feels safer. Iâm not too delusional that people wonât try to hurt him or he wonât try and hurt other people, so with a stone/iron axe and a shield he has enough to protect himself if there is no guard for some reason but itâs also not too strong, so he canât seriously injure someone.
After his time in Pandoraâs Vault I think it is important for Dream to feel like he has some sort of control, even if itâs just the power to protect himself if needed.
Living conditions:
I think we can all agree that Dreamâs living coditions are horrible right now. Dream needs to be somewhere more comfortable. Somewhere where he can move around, jump, see outside and breathe fresh air. Maybe outside of the SMP. He can only come to the SMP with allowance and someone with him at first. Of course he is still forbidden to leave the area, he can also be locked in somewhere. At first he shouldnât be left alone, to make sure he doesnât run away or hurts someone/himself. But after time the supervision in his âhomeâ gets less and less, showing Dream that they trust him and he can trust them. A mutal relationship based on trust and respect.
Punishment:
In the case that Dream acts out, trys to escape, etc. he shouldnât be put back in the Pandoraâs Vault. We can all agree that the prison wasnât built for rehabilitation. It was built for torture, punishment and breaking the inmateâs spirit. If he misbehaves and disobeys the orders of the guards he can be threatened with removal of his animals or his time outside for a limited time. There shouldnât be threats like âyou will never be able to see your animals again.â or âyou will be locked up in here foreverâ.
Important is to explain Dream why he is punished and why they are taking those exact measures. Tell Dream what he has done wrong precisely:
âYou attacked (insert character here) while you were cutting down trees with (insert guard here). We arenât allowing you to go ouside for three days because of this. If you behave and donât act out in those three days you will have your privileges back and will let back out again. You will still be allowed three meals a day and you will not be hurt in here.â
Maybe later even take him back to the person he has harmed. Ask Dream why he has acted the way he has and let him explain himself and why he did what he did.
Positive Reinforcement: (This is a baisc tool teachers use in education. If you want to see a student reapeat a specific behavior, you praise them which will lead to them repeating that behavior.)
Dream after all he has done is still a living being with emotions. He needs support and validation. If people want they can send him âthank you notesâ to show their gratefulness for him Maybe even small presents he can keep.
The guards should also tell Dream when he has done something good or when other people told them that Dream did really good.
Example: âWow Dream, you have repaired the entire Prime Path in just one day and one night! You deserve some rest, you did really good! Iâm sure the others will notice your hard work!â
Therapy:
I dontât think I have to say a lot about this. Please just get him everyone therapy... Have him realise why itâs wrong what he did and why his line of thinking is flawed!
