Just did my first barefoot run...
And I am SUCH A CONVERT! Hole. E. Cow. I did one lap around my subdivision (0.7 miles) in sock covered (otherwise) bare feet... and it was the easiest lap I've ever done. My knees felt great. My feet felt great. My posture and speed were great. I followed that lap with a second lap in my shoes... and it sucked. Honestly, I was surprised with how hard the second lap was. My left knee started twitching almost instantly (which it does from time to time on my regular runs), I had to constantly think about foot strike and posture, and it was just plain hard compared to the first lap. I will be kicking the shoes as soon as possible. Apparently, I should only do 5 mins barefoot at a time, to ease the transition and prevent any possible stress fractures. So, I will do 5 mins barefoot for the next little while, then go to 10 mins, 15 mins, etc.
Ooh!!! I just registered for the Resolution Run 5K on Saturday - happy new year to me! I'm already planning on the Color Run 5K and Make A Wish 5Ks in February, but (here comes the announcement): my very first 10K will be the Mardi Gras Masquerade on February 11, 2012!!! Yes, I'm excited. I might even be able to do the whole thing barefoot (okay, in Vibrams) by then. Woot woot!!!
And, I promised I would blog about the release party in LA, so that post is coming soon. Like, before the end of the year. Onwards and upwards!
