You had never been an overthinker.
Always true to yourself and your surroundings. Of course, you kept yourself alarmed and defensive when you knew something wasn’t right.
Which is exactly how you felt in this moment with the job you had decided to take at the beginning of the year.
What hurt most was that the man you were in love with was involved.
‘Don’t ever feel this way’. You recall when telling those words to Bishop. How he apologized for what he had gotten yourself into.
There’s no going back.
“And then I get there, there’s a shovel— I look over to them, I’m like— ‘What do I do?’ G goes ‘Start digging’ and man— if I knew that for the next hours, I’d be deep in dirt, Alamo sprinting on top of a horse? Yeah, I wouldn’t fucking believe it.”
“Rue, you’re so stupid but that’s not funny.”
You stood in the makeup room, alone with Rue. The other girls had gone to refresh their playlist lists, you always did it one day early. So, there you sat with Rue, something unusual for you.
Rue just shrugs at your comment, “It all worked out.” You had your lingerie from the other night on your hands, replaying your moment with Bishop. One small drop of his cum dried off. You take a deep breath, reaching for a tissue.
“Two nights ago, Bishop asked each one of us about you.” You look at her for a moment, “Asked us what we would talk about, if you ever made us unusual questions, done unusual things.” You take a peek outside; you see Bishop stand in a corner with G.
Rue was sitting beside you, taking her chair you pull it to the point that your mouth is on her ear. “I don’t know, what is your purpose. But whatever it is, fucking drop it.” You shove her back; her eyes being met with fear. She gulps, nodding. “…Thank you, Lola.”
G walks in, humming a song, Bishop behind him. “Who sings this?” He shows his phone to the two of you. “Charli XCX.” You answer. G hums, bringing his blunt to his mouth. “That little Mexican girl your friend, Rue?” G asks to Rue, talking about Maddy Perez. “Yeah, Maddy. Known her since High School.”
“How come she didn’t pick you for the photos?” G taps your head. The club was going to open late, because Maddy was going to do a photoshoot thing with a girl she managed with both Magick and Kitty. You roll your eyes at him, pointing at your eye. “Nonsense! It don’t even look that bad.” “You tell her that.” You mutter.
Your eyes drag to Bishop who just quietly stood between Rue and G. “Why did you guys do that to Rue? This girl isn’t danger.” You poke towards G and Bishop. “It’s not really your business.” Bishop answers quite quick.
A smile appears on your face, a mad one. “The two of you are mid 30 year old men, sitting on your knees, sucking a pimp’s dick for money. He tells you dig a girl in a hole. You guys literally, dig a girl in a hole?” G rolls his eyes to you, “It’s just Rue.” He mumbles, looking at her, “No offense.”
Rue just shrugs, “It’s really not that big of a deal.” “It’s not. Lola doesn’t really know what she’s talking about.” Bishop talks again, making you turn to him again. You stand up, now being face to face to him.
“Are you proud of this job? Kill people and put them in misery every day?”
“Beats dancing half naked in a pole for money.”
Suddenly the man you loved wasn’t in front of you. It was back to Bishop, Alamo’s henchman. The creep that lurked around with prayer beads for just his own protection, as if they were to hide his sins.
The slap got first before your tears. And you slapped, hard.
“Oh! Hey— Hey—” G reacts quick with words, Rue pushes her hands to her mouth. Bishop couldn’t even process what had happened, hand to his cheek, he sees you walk away.
Bishop knew better. He wasn’t going to go after you, not now. His cheek burned; it had a light sting because your nails carved him a little.
꧂
The two of you didn’t talk all day. Not until your break.
G approaching you with phone in hand, Alamo. “You slap Bishop?” You start looking around the club for him, not finding him anywhere.
“Bishop is 80 and a pervert and offended me.”
“Dumb bitch I could give less of a fuck what Bishop is. You don’t ever lay a hand on one of my men.”
Your eyes instantly roll, hearing G giggle beside you. “You go apologize to him or I’ll show you a true smack you hear me? You lucky my ass not there to give you a true beating.” Alamo speaks with more anger before telling you to pass the phone back to G.
He hands you and ice pack in return for the phone. “Out back.” G points to the back door before walking away talking with Alamo on the phone.
Quitting. It’s the only thing walking through your brain. It’s what’s for the better, you can’t keep being under this workplace. The love for Bishop was the thing holding you back.
You walked out too quick, a quick whine escaping your lips when you’re met with the cold air. Only standing in high platform shoes and an aquamarine fringe bra with white booty shorts. On your right, Bishop sat, looking at you.
The of you stay quiet, the wind blowing through. Taking a deep sigh and gripping the ice pack, you walk towards him until you sit beside him. Your hand caresses his cheek, seeing his face scrunch up.
“You are so fucking dramatic.”
“You’re the one that slapped me.”
You roll yours eyes again, slowly bringing the pack to his cheek. “I’m not doing this because I want to. Alamo told me to do it or else he’d kill me so, great to know I was the other woman all along.” You joke, hearing him hum. “Jealous of the love I get around?” “Yeah…” You put the ice pack away, your hand caressing his cheek again.
“Bishop, you really offended me. I hated how you treated me.” Bishop turns to you, meeting your eyes. “You know what my work was the moment you met me. You know I work under Alamo. I’m not proud of what I do and you know that— and you think what you told me, didn’t offend me?” Bishop asks you, your eyes drifting away, compelling your thoughts.
You can’t explain why, your eyes are tearing up. It wasn’t fair, the life the two of you were under, the things that kept occurring that were putting you and Bishop to the test. “It’s not fair, is it?” The tears fall, quickly you lift your face up, not wanting your makeup ruined. “It’s not.” Bishop whispers, his eyes never moving away from you.
“I need to quit, B.” You sniffle, looking back at him. “It’s the only solution.” He doesn’t say anything, letting your words wonder into his brain. “Solution to what?” “To us. Either leave each other forever: it’s the best for us or—” You shrug, “We run away, we can be content creators or tarot readers whatever the fuck works.”
Bishop laughs, a very genuine laugh. He even places his hands to his face, giggling away. You on the other hand, are not. “Bishop, I’m serious.” He looks back at you, calming down, “I know…I know.” Bishop sits up, offering his hand to you.
Standing up with him, his hands go to your neck, holding your face. “I promise everything will be sorted out.” He massaged your neck.
“I’m sorry I upset you.”
“I’m sorry I upset you, B.”
Your eyes trace to his lips, without thinking, you lean to kiss him. It had felt so long since you last kissed him . It was so complex to go so back and forth with Bishop. Yet it felt so good.
“Bishop!” You gasp when your back hits the wall, his strong hands traveling to your bare butt, guiding his thigh between your legs. “What?” He asks you, as if he isn’t kissing down your neck, “I can’t ever get enough of you.” You moan when your hips start grinding against his thigh. “Baby, I have to go back.” You whimper; however your hips don’t stop chasing the friction.
He hums, leaving small kisses on your jaw before getting to your lips. “Tonight.” He whispers softly against your mouth, feeling you laugh. Bishop leaves the smallest smack on your butt when you walk back in. He can feel his heartbeat, he takes his prayer beads out his pocket.
Bishop sits back down, for the first time he prays for you. Just for the universe to protect over you, to let you know you are loved and appreciated by him. He loves you. It’s the one thing he knows it’s true to himself.
꧂
At night, you were placed on the main pole. Giving the best moves on your routine, the floor covered in money. The girl, Maddy was sitting by Alamo’s booth on her computer.
It was whatever for you. That is what you were thinking until Alamo and Bishop walked out the office. “There she is.” Alamo talks once he approaches the booth. Maddy looks up with a smile, “The club is so photogenic.”
To be honest you couldn’t hear the full conversation, given you were a little bit far and were more focused on the music. That didn’t stop Bishop from looking, looking over the club, his eyes finding yours. You flash a smile while twirling on the pole, mouthing to him; ‘I love you, daddy.’ He doesn’t do anything, just sits on the booth to play it low.
But that’s when you hear it. And you hear it perfectly clear.
“Hey. I’m Maddy.”
“I know.”
The fuck?
Your head turns to the booth quick. All you see is Bishop looking at her. It all happens quick, she turns her attention back to Alamo, Bishop goes back to looking around. You don’t know what that was, but you just hated it.
It was such a small interaction. It never occurred to you that Bishop would ever talk with another girl. Not just any girl, but her, Maddy. You want to move past it, really you do. But when you see Alamo stand up and make his way through the crowd, they start talking again.
“Is he always this defensive?” Maddy asks him in an annoyed tone. Bishop turns to her again, “It wouldn’t be normal if he wasn’t.” She chuckles. “What do you do?” Now she closes her laptop, putting her attention to Bishop.
Bishop didn’t know what to do. Now he had to investigate this woman and her intentions with the place. “I’m his henchman.” He replies, looking back to the club, looking for you. There you were, picking up all the money on the floor and putting it in a bag.
When you look up, your heart drops far too quick, you even felt like you were about to fall. Bishop stood there, offering his hand to Maddy to get her off the booth. Your eyes linger on her manicured hand, the way it lands on top of Bishop’s.
Oh my God, you’re going to be sick.
It hurts even more knowing the two of them left together just then. You had no idea what they did and you didn’t want to. You kept telling yourself you were overthinking everything, but it was like your thoughts were eating you alive.
When were the two of you going to be normal?
꧂
Taking a shower was exactly what you needed. Doing your skincare, putting on oil and moisturizing cream, you had never felt so fresh.
The knock on the door doesn’t surprise you anymore, especially with connecting the two long knocks to Bishop. Putting on a robe, you make your way towards the door, slowly opening it.
There he stood, a small bouquet of flowers, and a white bag. “Hey, you.” He mutters, you smile to him. Letting him in he hands you the flowers, landing a kiss on top of your head. Bishop places the white bag on the kitchen counter.
“These are from your garden?”
“Yes.”
You smile smelling the flowers, quickly running to place them on a vase with water. “Is this the mark you like?” Turning over your him, you see him hold your favorite ice cream brand on his hand. “You’re really trying to get laid tonight?” “Funny.” He sarcastically says, going towards the fridge.
Bishop was now on your bed while you stood on the bathroom, door open. The two of you talked for hours about anything, things you had seen on the news, stuff about the club, memories, anything. You stood in the bathroom cleaning some makeup brushes you had around and arranging your counter.
“Maddy’s nice.”
You wish you had a gun to kill yourself the moment you hear those two words come out of Bishop. It even felt like he was doing it on purpose. You take a deep sigh, walking out towards your dresser. “I’ve never talked to her.” You whisper, avoiding finding Bishop’s eyes and focusing on getting your pajamas.
He was already in bed, tucked in almost looking like he was waiting for a bedtime story and kiss to his forehead. “She talked about managing the girls, I brought you up.” He explains, a tiredness on his voice. You shot a glare at him for a moment, “I don’t want to do that.” You snap, going back to the bathroom.
Bishop sighs, sitting up a little, “How else will you get out of dancing?” “I don’t know, how will you get out of the crimes you’ve done?” It didn’t really feel like it was to start an argument, you were tired and had more things to do the next day.
“That’s different.” Bishop says, but all you do is close the door. You take off the robe and hang it where you always placed it. Sliding into your white panties, you put on a lacy blue nightgown you had. “She said she was open to sitting down with you, she thinks there’s a different way to help you that is not— sex working.” Bishop mutters the last part, unsure of not really knowing what Maddy was actually doing with her main client, Cassie.
He quickly erases his thoughts when the door opens again. His eyes ranking your figure. The small dress you wore was driving him crazy. Your skin tone looked beautiful paired with the blue shade. Your nipples were perked and visible underneath, the nightgown showed your curves beautifully.
You make your way to turn off the lights. Crawling on bed you lean to kiss Bishop, “Night.” You mumble, laying down on bed. “Night…” He whispers, seeing you take your side. Usually, you’d lay your head on his chest, talk even more until you’d doze off. And truthfully, he had other plans in mind.
The touch is on your thigh, right below your butt. His hand slowly caressing your skin, not grabbing it, not massaging it, just lingering his hand on you. He drags his nose through your shoulder, leaving a small kiss, then the back of your neck, until getting to the back of your ear.
“You look so beautiful.” He whispers, leaving kisses on your neck. It’s really hard to not give in right now, feeling his erection poke through your back. “This dress…s’ making me want to drag your panties to side— fuck you until you’re out of breath.” Now, he’s touching you harder, sliding his hand under to play with your panties.
You really wanted that to happen, really. It was hard to keep your composure, you didn’t want to give in like all times you had done before. And primarily, you were upset with him. At least you wanted to be.
A warm smile flashes on your face, slowly moving your hand to his. Taking a hold of it, you give it a kiss. “I’m really tired, B.” You whisper. “Night.” His hand lands on your waist when you let go. Bishop couldn’t believe what just happened. You turned him down.
For a moment he looks around, trying to understand if he had done something wrong, was there something the two of you needed to talk about? Had you ran out of birth control pills? Were you cheating on him? Then he thought more, it almost felt like the bulb on his head turned on.
“This is about Maddy.”
Your eyes shot open, turning to him. “What?” You ask in a hard tone. “This…” He scoffs, he fucking scoffs. “Are you jealous?”
“I’m going to fucking sleep, Bishop. If you want to keep bringing up Maddy than you just might as well go fuck her while you’re at it.” You were so close to his face now, practically nose to nose.
There was anger in your eyes, not because of Maddy, but because Bishop actually knew why you had been upset. God Bishop actually knows you head to toe.
Laying back down, you dramatically pulled the sheets more towards you. Bishop thought this was adorable, you loved him to the point that you even got jealous for talking to some girl. He doesn’t realize he’s smiling, looking down at you. He does realize that this is all he wants, he could care less about Maddy, about any other girl.
He leans back down, kissing your temple. “Goodnight, pretty.” He whispers, slowly dragging you to his embrace. You just sigh deeply, convincing yourself you’ve won.
Now in the morning, you wake up to a notification from your phone. Stretching your body, you reach your arm only to find Bishop had already left. “Coward.” You yawn. Phone in hand you read the message from an unknown number.
Hi! It’s Rue.
Bishop gave me your number.
Can I invite you to eat? I need help on something.
You had no idea for what reason Rue was texting you, let alone claiming she needed your help. Bishop giving her your number was raising questions. Why? Mainly, why? Some things were to find out for yourself. Especially having a one on one with Rue. And this was an opening door for that.
Sure.
You couldn’t throw it away.
