Abstract:

Leadership styles play an important role and position in pedagogical activities and school effectiveness because they play a major role in the learning process. The current study looked at the relationship between teacher leadership styles (including democratic, autocratic, transformational and transactional) and student academic achievement at the university level. Head of the Departments of Social Sciences and Master degree students made up the study population. Twenty-nine Heads of Departments (HODs) and two hundred and six students from five public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtukhawa were selected through simple random and stratified (proportionate) sampling techniques. Data was collected through a questionnaire, the reliability co-efficient of which was 0.72 and 0.82 for HODs and students respectively. The data collected was analyzed using Mean, Standard Deviation and Pearson Correlation. The study results indicate that teacher leadership styles are strongly linked to student academic success

Greetings!  My name is Spencer Garrison, and I’m a graduate student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Michigan.  I’m conducting a research project on how trans-identified teens and young adults — folks between the ages of 18 and 25 — make decisions about how to present their gender in online spaces.

What is the project about?

I’m hoping to answer three questions:

How do different types of social networking platforms — each with their own features and benefits — help to shape our interactions with others around gender and gender identity?  As we explore new forms of self-presentation or adopt new identity labels, do we start to use social media differently, too?

How do users “triangulate” their gender presentation across different online contexts?  When (if ever) does it feel important to do this, and when does this feel less important? 

How do changes in online networks help to shape, reinforce, or undermine users’ gender identity claims?  How do users respond to other users that might challenge their identity claims or question their gender presentation?

What does the study involve?  What will I be asked to do?

Participants will be asked to take part in two short (90-120 minute) interview sessions, spaced approximately three months apart.  These interviews will be conducted using BlueJeans, a browser-based video-conferencing program that is free to use.  During the first interview, we’ll talk about your identity and coming-out process, your social media use, and your social support networks (both online and off).  At the second interview, we’ll look together at specific pieces of content that you’ve posted to (or removed from) your social media profiles over the three-month gap between interviews, and we’ll talk about your decisions to post this content (as well as the feedback you received on it from other users).

Respondents will earn a $50 MasterCard gift card in exchange for participating in each interview session (meaning that those who participate in both interviews will earn $100).

Am I eligible to participate?

To participate, you must:

Be between the ages of 18 and 25

Identify as trans or gender non-conforming (or as someone in the process of exploring/questioning their gender identity)

Be active in at least two different online communities or on two different social media platforms (Tumblr; YouTube; Reddit; Facebook; Instagram; Twitter; etc.)

Must post new content at least once per week

Must interact with other users on each of the two platforms at least three times a week

Abstract:

This study compared the perception(s) of teachers and headteachers working in special schools and those in regular schools about the effect of leadership on the performance of the school. The sample included 100 teachers and 50 headteachers from each of the school categories in Karachi city. The analysis of data was carried out by using descriptive statistics and Independent Samples t-test. The results revealed that teachers and headteachers perceived leadership style to be affecting the performance of the school. The headteachers and teachers from regular schools and teachers from special schools scored highest on their response(s) demonstrating that headteachers anticipated the role teachers working under their leadership in inculcating knowledge, skills, and attitudes among students; whereas, the score of the responses of the headteachers of special schools appeared to be highest indicating that they guide their teachers how to attain the goals of their school(s).

Abstract:

Issue voting is the theory of voting behavior which emphasizes that issues play an important role in making electoral decisions by the electorate in general elections. Issues of public importance are incorporated in party manifestoes and electoral campaigns so that to attract the masses and to stand victorious in elections. This article provides empirical evidence during 2002-2013 that how issue voting has played its dominant role in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa? The study assumes that issue voting is a dominant factor in describing electoral patterns in KP. The period 2002-2013 covers three general elections including 2002, 2008 and 2013. In all these elections issue voting has been operated in the form of various issues. It will highlight all those issues which have been used in the form of issue voting during 2002-2013 period. Data have been collected through a questionnaire and have been analyzed with the help of SPSS software version 22 by applying descriptive and inferential statistics.

Abstract:

This study explores how parental attributes including parental education, occupation and the type of parental interaction affect different types of LoC of secondary school students. A total of 520 students were selected as participants of the study. Brown Locus of Control Scale (BLOCS) was the instrument of the study. ANOVA and t-test were used to explore the differences in LoC of students with different parental attributes. Results showed that internality was significantly more in students who moderately share their feelings with mothers. Other externality was significantly more in students whose fathers were businessmen than in students whose fathers were employees or laborers, and in students who completely or moderately share their feelings with their mothers than those who do not share their feelings with their mothers. External social LoC of students with less mother education (elementary and graduation) was significantly higher than the students with higher (postgraduation) mother education.

Abstract:

The goal of Higher Education Commission is to develop and implement quality across all university activities and making it compatible with international practices. The faculty is required to have ability in designing, maintaining and updating curricula, when measuring the quality of an institution or of teaching; designing syllabus is the basic required skill. This study aims to analyze perception, syllabus designing skills and practices of faculty members in universities. This research is quantitative, structured questionnaire and document analyses were used for data collection. Results showed faculty have no related training; rules for designing syllabus are not followed. It is recommended that training sessions should be organized to developing syllabus designing skills of university faculty. Standard guidelines should be developed by quality assurance bodies.
