Semester 2 So Far! 29th January 2018 - 20th March 2018
January 29th - February 2nd (week 1)
No progression was made during this week as I was running slightly behind schedule.
This time was intended to be spent finalising the survey.
February 5th - 9th (week 2)
Due to being behind schedule, the final decisions were made on what questions and music would be used in the survey, as well as how long the clip being used would run for.
In this week the videos for each segment of the survey were constructed (putting each track to the chosen clip) in order to put my survey together.
I had originally aimed to send the survey out in this week.
February 12th - 16th (week 3)
After determining all questions the questions and music that were to be used, in this week I started constructing the survey using SurveyMonkey. This however took longer than expected due to not being a paid subscriber.
Without being a paid subscriber, each survey could only be 10 questions long. As the survey amounted to 24 questions in total, three separate surveys needed to be created. Due to this, the first two parts required the final question to direct people to the next stage of the survey.
I had originally aimed to be collecting responses in this week.
February 19th - 23rd (week 4)
By the 21st February I had sent the survey to a group of peers (4 people in total) for a trial run; looking for any bugs or confusion that may have occurred during the process of filling the survey out.
On the 22nd February I had received feedback from these 4 test runs and tweeked the final product. On the evening of 22nd February I publicly announced that the survey was live on social media, asking for people’s help in the same social media post.
After the first night of being live, I received further feedback from a peer about a spelling mistake which was quickly rectified.
I had aimed to be monitoring the survey responses throughout this week.
February 26th - March 2nd (week 5)
At the start of this week I had wrote out my Literature Review and sent it off for feedback. After receiving feedback I then arranged a meeting with my tutor for the following week as it was apparent that the Literature Review was incorrectly written.
Survey responses were also monitored throughout this week which I had originally aimed to be doing.
March 5th -9th (week 6)
The meeting with my tutor to smooth over the feedback of my Literature Review took place on 8th March. In this meeting we discussed further how to rectify the mistakes that had been made in the originally submitted Lit Review.
Survey responses were monitored throughout this week. It was determined in the meeting of 8th March that 20 responses would be a sufficient amount of data to analyse at the bare minimum; there were 18 responses at this time. This was the original aim proposed for this week; however, I had originally aimed to have achieved/received 30 responses by the end of the week.
March 12th - 16th (week 7)
13th March I noted the events of the previous weeks of the semester in order to start blogging and documenting my activities throughout semester 2.
On the same day I began to alter my Lit Review accordingly, starting by removing unnecessary words and making note of what was required to correctly complete this part of the report.
I continued to monitor the survey’s activity, having 25 responses by 14th March.
I had originally aimed to be starting to analyse the data of responses in this week but decided to see if any more people would fill out the survey before the end of the week.
March 19th - 20th (Present) (week 8)
On the 19th March I reviewed the survey’s activity and analysed the received data (still being 25 participants). The results point to my original thoughts (of people seeing horror music as an emotional hand holder) being correct; however, the same amount of people that have answered in this way (a large majority) do not see this as a negative.
Also on 19th March, I finished altering my Lit Review accordingly and sent it off in order to receive feedback in my next scheduled meeting (Thursday 22nd March).
I had originally aimed to be writing 600 words of the report by the end this week which was achieved in the completion of a second edition of my Lit Review.

I have similar experiences in my previous studies (industrial design) but I never thought about making this process as a new approach in research and developing thesis idea.
