My name is ******* I am a third year undergraduate majoring in biology and psychology. I have a strong interest in your research program related to hearing loss and developmental neuroscience. Hence, I am writing to apply to a possible work/volunteer position in your research laboratory this summer.
As I have read your profile, I am deeply intrigued by your recent research in hearing loss and brain regeneration. Essentially, as this research can develop advantageous treatments for patients with hearing disorders, this field of neuroscience interests me profusely.
As I endeavour to become a clinical audiologist, partaking in this research project would be advantageous to me. Furthermore, as I have experience related to this field of study, as well as prudent research experience; working on this intriguing project alongside erudite researchers, would be most beneficial.

That sounds perfect to me and no it’s not wordy at all! :) I would just recommend outlining what kind of experience you have specifically, and keep in mind that work/study research positions are applied through RAY. Other than that, you’re good.
