Itβs not exactly healthy, but itβs in a stack, so I guess you could say, itβs a... balanced breakfast

I mean, we don't have any forks. But we can use our hands. I'm not going to judge!

Now it has all the power of a breakfast. We have to destroy it!

I don't care if you are the most important meal of the day! I made you to bring us together, not to tear us apart!

I guess I dreamed too big

Future Vision
Rose's Room is introduced here for the first time, but we don't really know that until Rose's Room
What could have been better?
Not alot. This episode covered alot of ground, kept us focused on something really important (most important. . . meal of the day), and gave us some insights into the temple and the spaces each Gem keeps to themselves.
I can't raise the rating too much because. . . I didn't get any emotional range out of it. . . but it was really fun!

If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs.
This quote teaches us a great deal about Greg and honestly, makes him an easily loveable guy.
Future Vision
That Big Red Eye ends up being important later in the season. Apparently it was sent to scope Earth for Gems.
The laser light cannon is used again, as well as the upgraded quartizine trio in The Return.
What could have been better?
The general layout of the episode was too much like the first episode. I know this is common in series and in storytelling, but variety is key to keeping my interest.

Mr. Queasy was an awesome doll.
The sea spire falling.
Pearl concocting a plan using her holographic power, only to have Steven solve the problem before she could complete her sentence.
Best Character Moments
Pearl talking about the history and former glory of the sea spire.
Amethyst stuffing the egg in the fridge.
If I were a shrimp, thatβs what I would do
-Steven
You are a shrimp
-Amethyst
Future Vision
The Lunar Sea Spire turns out to have been a test to see if Steven was ready to start going on missions as revealed in The Test.
The cheeseburger backpack continues being used in episodes such as Lion 2, the Movie and The Return.
What could have been better?
This episode is actually one that I reference and think about alot all the way through the season, mostly because it reminds me of a DnD session I once DMβd for where this one kid (20ish year old) kept coming up with these really ridiculous ideas and Iβd let him roll for success, and the little booger kept getting insanely high rolls.
Most of my annoyance with this episode comes from the fact that there were no connecting moments with the characters and no moving of the overarching story. They destroyed a piece of βhis heritageβ (which just drives me nuts) and were mostly unemotional about the whole event.

Most Memorable Moment
There were these. . . cupcakes. And they were inside of these . . . jars. It was confusing and confounding and all those con- words. . .
and this one:Β
Best Character Moments
The introduction to weapon summoning from each of the Gems. Each of the Gems try to help Steven summon his weapon. Pearl teaches him to "pay attention to the petals" and use "hard work" to master your gem (and perform a dance?). Amethyst teaches him that the weapon just comes when it's needed and she doesn't have to try at all. Garnet tells him that both Pearl and Amethyst are right OR you could link your mind with the energy of all existing matter, channeling the collective power of the universe through your Gem.
To be fair, Amethyst got closest to right for Steven.
Future Vision
We see Connieβs bracelet in the freezer in this episode. It is shown again in Bubble Buddies.Β
We meet Centipeetle in this episode. We get to know that little critter later in Monster Madness
Steven continues being unable to summon his shield on demand all the way through the season, though he does manage to summon it a couple times when he really needed it.
What could have been better?
I can't think of anything . . . At the time I originally rated it a 4, I didn't really care for Steven or the dominant role of junk food in the episode. But mostly, I think it was a good episode to meet the Gems, gain a little perspective on their personalities and their relationships with Steven. It was also a good episode to meet Steven, show his love of food, loyalty to things he loves, confusion and frustration as he learns to harness his powers, and creative problem-solving skills. I even liked the enemy in this one.
