In the spirit of the day, how do sugar AU Shane & Ilya spend Ilya’s first birthday once they’re a real couple?
(And extra bonus question: how do they spend Shane’s?)
oh shane takes ilya’s birthday SO seriously. like it’s a cup final game to him. it’s that deep to him.
this year they’re going to monaco! ilya wants to go and play around in the casinos and pretend to be james bond, and vegas is too work-adjacent for shane, so monaco it is. he’s getting them a great hotel, and he’s got a yacht in the area anyway, so it’s not like they’ll get too claustrophobic. idk anything about F1 but this is my world and I say the monaco grand prix is happening and they’re attending. after that they’ll just laze around on the yacht, go on walks, runs, etc. enjoy each others company!
when they get back to montreal he has a party planned, obviously, because you only turn 27 once. he hired a party planner and she’s great at her job, she did the wedding and ilya’s graduation party too. they have a fancy club in montreal rented out, all of his friends are invited and a bunch of shane’s friends too (because he does have friends in this universe— mostly just scott and kip, eric, troy barrett etc.) it’s a surprise party, but he’s fairly certain ilya knows it’s happening.
he wants ilya to get the best of both worlds— a nice, intimate birthday in europe, soaking up the sun and taking long walks together. and then a loud, clubrat birthday with his friends back in montreal, where they can get drunk and grind on each other in a club. and ilya laps it UPPPP he feels so loved and so spoiled it’s insane. he loves being able to dance with shane and his friends at the same time, he loves being able to see shane and harris attempt karaoke together. it’s the best !
for shane’s birthday they usually have a nice dinner in the city with rose, svetlana, harris and troy (troy is still playing, so it depends on how ottawa are doing) about a week before his actual birthday. then they drive down to the cottage with anya and just spend a week together, uninterrupted, doing whatever they want to. on shane’s actual birthday they have dinner with yuna and david.
for his 45th though ilya does throw him a big party, and shane actually kind of likes it. turns out parties aren’t so bad when it’s just people who love you trying to love you.
