“Why should I?”

Squall was normally good with this sort of thing. With letting bygones go, even if he did harbor some sort of resentment. If he was upset, he did little to let it show.

But every now and again, something got under his skin so much… and today, sleep-deprived and hungry, it was Laguna.

“You didn’t even think about trying to find us, to give us even half a chance! So why shouldn’t I just return the damn favor?!”

Wincing at the anger filled words, Laguna tried to quell the guilt. Thing was he too was low on sleep and the already thin filter between thoughts and mouth was practically non-existent today.

“To give you guys a chance I would have to have known about you wouldn’t have I?” His usual calm facade was virtually gone and long buried resentment and anger was coming loose.

Laguna frowned as he watched Squall blearily look around, catching the glance at the coffee mug and the pills beside it. He picked the bottle up, frown deepening when he shook it and saw how full it still was. 

“I don’t visit for a few weeks and this is what I come back to....” He said it evenly and almost as if he’d expected this on some level, a deep sigh coming out.

“Squall....you’re not fine kiddo.” He leaned down to softly grasp his son’s face in his hands, tilting it to the side to let the full view of his pale and shadowed face come into the light. “Try to go to bed.....for me?” 

“It looks worse than it really is, Squall,” she said reassuringly, waving her non-bandaged hand dismissively. “I’ll heal in no time and be back to tip top shape!”

((As a dorm resident, I make it a point to greet, smile, and thank the custodians who clean the bathrooms whenever I see them. Seriously. It’s a thankless job but they are wonderful people. Bless you, friend. You put up with so much.))

[☩]     It wasn’t everyday that he decided to just stay in his room and not bother with anything. A rare occurrence but it did happen. Fujin and Raiin could handle the rounds about the place just fine on their own. Today he’d rather just not have contact with anyone. A little break from from the idiots that ran around.

    What he hadn’t counted on was Squall barging into his room. That was even rare than the blonde taking a day for himself. It left him wondering what brought the moody rival to his quarters. Hiding from Selphie? Ignoring his own work? Or perhaps he’d come to growl at Seifer for something he either did or didn’t do.
