𝘏𝘌     𝘉𝘙𝘈𝘊𝘌𝘚     𝘏𝘐𝘔𝘚𝘌𝘓𝘍,     back     hits     the     wall     with     a     familiar     thud     and     their     dance     had     reached     its     peak,     the     recognizable     tune     of     heavy     breathing     and     venom     that     they     shared     finally     crescendos,     and     they     knew     what     came     next.     𝘐𝘛     𝘋𝘐𝘋𝘕’𝘛     𝘔𝘌𝘈𝘕     𝘈𝘕𝘠𝘛𝘏𝘐𝘕𝘎    ----     that’s     what     Gavin     had     insisted     at     first,     their     weekly     visits     after     nights     shared     and     hours     spent     slighting     another     amid     case     after     case.     The     now     accustomed     build     up     of     tension     over     the     week     was     but     a     step     in     their     game,     where     they     seemed     none     the     wiser     to     what     happened     next,     what     it     was     leading     to     beyond     a     little     game     they     liked     to     play.     Taller     one     looming     o’er     him     and     he     pulls     him     in     with     ease.     Hands     leading     over     his     chest,     up     ---     up,     further     until     they     loop     loosely     around     his     neck.     Bitter     sneer     curling     upon     his     lips     before     he     draws     him     in,     heated     and     hungry.     Said     heat     borne     of     hatred     was     always     one     that     raged     on     and     on     within     the     grizzled     detective     and     nothing     seemed     to     softened     the     edge     --     or     dull     the     burn.     𝘚𝘛𝘐𝘓𝘓     𝘏𝘐𝘚     𝘔𝘐𝘕𝘋     𝘙𝘈𝘎𝘌𝘚    𝘖𝘕,     𝘐𝘕𝘚𝘐𝘚𝘛𝘐𝘕𝘎     ---     It     doesn’t     mean     anything,     it     doesn’t.

Ego     wounded,     would     not     be     fooled     once     more     as     he     keeps     cards     tightly     held     to     his     chest.     NO     ONE     COULD     MAKE     A     FOOL     OF     YOU,     NO     ONE   WOULD     EVEN     TRY.     Still,     as     he     tastes     him,     deeper     and     deeper     he     crept     beneath     wounded     thoughts     to     find     the     walls     of     his     rage     kept     sealed     some     suffocating     loneliness.          -------------------     𝘏𝘌     𝘞𝘈𝘕𝘛𝘚     𝘔𝘖𝘙𝘌,     kisses     until     he’s     breathless.     Until     he     couldn’t     think.     Anything     to     silence     that     howling     empty     beneath     the     rage.     Yet     all     at     once,     as     they’re     getting     started,     as     he     loses     himself     in     the     rough     heat     and     coppery     taste     of     blood     on     his     tongue,     the     needle     hits     a     snag.     Record     scratch.     Another     walks     in,     silent     and     darkened     evidence     container     now     flooded     with     cold     light,     the     hum     of     them     always     sickened     Detective     Reed.     Tangled     mess     of     limbs     and     beating     hearts     are     soon     to     part,     Gavin     pulling     close     to     his     old     ways     in     an     instant.     KEEP     YOURSELF     SAFE,     O’     WILD     DOG.     LET     MAN     BEAT     YOU     NO     MORE.     Arms     are     crossed     tightly     over     his     chest,     gaze     aimed     downwards.     As     if     the     officer     didn’t     just     see     what     they     did.     Voices     calling     from     within     to     berate     him ;     PISSED     AWAY     YOUR     CHANCES,     AND     FOR     WHAT?                         The     officers     realizes     the     mistake     made    and     quickly     excuses     themselves,     FUCKIN’     ROOKIES.     And     still,     Gavin’s     guard     has     been     raised,     held     tight     to     walls     warped     by     time     and     wear,     he     wouldn’t     lower     them     so     easy     once     more.     Terrified     at     what     may     come     next,     a     loss     of     control,     something     they     can     use     to     hold     over     his     head,     and     why     wouldn’t     they?     [     FUCK     !     FUCK     !     FUCK     !     ]     --------     Only     one     short     phrase     spoken     before     Gavin     shoves     past     Connor.     And     in     his     tone     is     nothing,     nothing     like     what     was     granted     just     a     moment     ago.     No,     he’s     gone     cold.

𝘉𝘙𝘌𝘈𝘛𝘏𝘌     𝘌𝘈𝘚𝘠,     𝘚𝘖𝘓𝘋𝘐𝘌𝘙,     𝘖’     𝘞𝘐𝘓𝘋     𝘋𝘖𝘎.     𝘍𝘖𝘙     𝘠𝘖𝘜𝘙     𝘗𝘙𝘌𝘠     𝘏𝘈𝘚     𝘍𝘈𝘓𝘓𝘌𝘕     𝘈𝘛     𝘠𝘖𝘜𝘙     𝘍𝘌𝘌𝘛.     One     hand     upon     his     hip     while     the     other     holds     his     jacket,     knuckles     raw     and     bloodied     --     matches     his     maw     all     crimson     painted     and     scarred     from     the     vitriol     of     something     from     a     lifetime     ago.     Yet     he     speaks     easy     to     the     investigator,     discussing     some     detail     about     the     crime     scene,     and     if     he’d     been     free     to     go     home.     As     if     he     hadn’t     beaten     someone     senseless,     as     if     he     hadn’t     just     walked     the     tightrope     and     nearly     slipped     from     the     wavering     cord     beneath     his     boots.     After     a     nod,     the     wounded     mutt     comes     crawling     back     to     that     which     owns     him,         [     and     you     can     see     it     in     his     eyes     he’s     commanding     himself     to     be     wise,     take     one     step     and     then     another.     no     time     to     break     beneath     the     strain,     he’s     come     too     far.     ]     -------     𝘏𝘌     𝘚𝘗𝘌𝘈𝘒𝘚,     voice     low,     rumbling     deep     within     his     chest     as     he     mumbles.

𝘉𝘜𝘛     𝘏𝘌     𝘕𝘌𝘝𝘌𝘙     𝘎𝘌𝘛𝘚     𝘛𝘖     𝘍𝘐𝘕𝘐𝘚𝘏,     ----     never     cares     much     too     anyhow.     Synthetic     skin     so     artificial     but     alive     sparks     something     deep     in     him     as     Connor’s     lips     meet     his     own     bloodstained     ones.     Some     taste     of    metal     and     the     breath     of     a     last     cigarette     on     his     teeth     ever     present     as     he     falls     into     him,     wilting     ---     like     some     towering,     cold,     effigy     of     the     man     he     wanted     to     be     --     it     all     comes     tumbling     down,     down,     down.     Shoulders     unclench     and     eyes     once     lost     in     some     harbored     thought     of     doubt     and     hatred     reflect     his     newly     freed     mind.      [     it     wouldn’t     last     forever,     but     he     didn’t     need     it     to.     ]     ---------     all     at     once     he’s     breathless,     air     stolen     from     worn     lungs.     𝘚𝘓𝘖𝘞     𝘛𝘖     𝘎𝘖     𝘐𝘚     𝘏𝘌,     as     Gavin     hovers     close,     hungering     to     taste     him     again     --     feel     the     warmth     and     yet     stumbling     for     the     words     to     ask     for     it.     As     if     he     needed     to.     Yet     all     he     can     manage     is     ONE     THING     -------     just     ONE     THING,     and     that’s     all     he     needed.

HE   WAS   RIGHT ,   Gavin   knows   he   is.   Things   he   can’t   speak   of,   things   that   were   far   too   painful   to   even   utter   that   he   held   tight   to.   Held   so   close   and   tightly   that   it’d   crush   them,   break   skin,   and   burn   knuckles   white.   The   suffering   had   to   mean   something,   fearful   of   what   he   would   be   without   it,   and   unable   to   face   it   out   of   fear   of   shattering.   It   was   all   a   perfect   tower   of   glass   and   scrap   all   warped   around   him,   keeping   the   distance   between   himself   and   others   firmly   in   place.   The   balancing   act   of   treading   the   line,   of   fumbling   along   the   long   road   he   walked   with   raw   feet   and   tired   body   had   left   him   emotionally   exhausted,   always   holding   tight   like   weights   wrapped   ‘round   ankles.   Yet   his   attention   to   keeping   up   his   facade   was   meticulous   and   intentional,   like   an   acrobat   on   a   tightrope,   as   if   he   was   made   for   it.   Crafted   especially   by   and   for   this   suffering.   Arms   are   crossed   tightly   over   his   chest,   defensive   as   ever,   always   clinging   tightly   to   that   front   of   power   and   control   he   held,   the   only   protection   he   had.   His   lips,   sunkissed   and   slanted,   tasting   of   the   bite   of   whiskey   all   warm   and   strong   as   it   hits   his   empty   stomach   and   washes   over   him   with   a   warmth   unbridled.   A   warmth   to   try   to   calm   the   frigid   wealth   of   bitterness   and   wild   untamed   landscape   of   his   mind   and   heart.   But   to   no   avail.   There   are   thousands   of   things   he   wants   to   say,   tons   of   insults   he   could   lob   like   harsh   rock   to   break   bone   and   tender   vein   opened   for   him   in   some   attempt   to   lure   him   out,   to   coax   him   from   his   self-made   prison.

it’s   not   that   easy.   don’t   you   think   I   want   to   let   it   all   go?   do   I   want   to   let   it   go?

“   maybe   .      .      .   ”

Mask   still   welded   tightly   to   his   form   as   he   tries   to   keep   composure,   but   in   his   eyes,   you   can   see   it.   He’s   breaking,   he’s   breaking.   Jaw   swivels   and   hand   lifts   to   rub   at   his   mouth   as   lip   quivers,   tears   brimming   there,   feared   and   fated   to   fall   but   not   without   opposition.   Teeth   are   sharp   and   swift,   sinking   into   tongue   and   cheek   until   he   can   taste   blood,   something   to   ease   his   emotional   pain   in   trade   for   physical   destruction.   Because   that’s   all   he   could   do,   wasn’t   it?   Destroy?   It’s   what   it   felt   like,   rough   hands   all   calloused   and   scarred.   Gentle   looking,   perhaps,   from   a   distance   but   once   one   trod   too   close   the   evidence   of   his   errors   --   his   habits   --   were   clear.   He   was   worn.

Connor’s   words   come   again,   repeated   in   his   mind,   like   a   drop   of   water.   A   steady   leak   from   a   pipe,   all   small   on   its   own   but   when   pondered   on   long   enough   would   break   the   levee.   And   break   it   did.    

“   I   dunno,   I--   ”

Breath   catches,   tears   brim,   a   hand   is   guided   upwards   to   continue   rubbing   at   his   face   as   he   wilts   into   it.   Up   and   up   before   it   shields   his   face,   hides   downturned   eyes   while   his   other   hand   remains   coiled   tightly   around   him,   knuckles   white.   The   tremor   of   his   shoulders   heaving   at   the   first   stifled   sob,   a   crack   in   his   countenance.   A   break   in   his   wall.   And   then   another.   All   warnings   of   what   was   to   come.   He’s   breaking   but   he’s   trying   so   hard   to   hide.   He   wasn’t   one   for   theatrics,   at   least   not   like   this.   Would   much   rather   fight   and   toil,   to   rage   endlessly   against   the   gentle   hand   that   attempted   to   guide   him   to   a   better   path.   Misery   was   hard   to   bear,   but   when   it’s   all   you’ve   ever   known   it’s   easier   to   continue   with   it   than   attempt   the   great   feat   of   trying   something   new.   Especially   after   being   burned   so   many   times.   Especially   after   getting   comfortable   and   being   dropped.   Shattered.   The   detective   has   been   in   so   many   pieces   he   has   no   idea   what’s   left   of   him,   and   wagers   he’s   not   worth   saving,   not   worthy   of   something   good   like   love.   It   frightens   him,   how   good   he   makes   him   feel.   Which   is   why   he   didn’t   want   to   break.   Didn’t   want   to   leave   him   to   pick   up   all   his   brittle,   sharp   pieces   that   were   sure   to   wound.   The   tone   is   clear,   he’s   crying,   but   trying   his   best   still   to   hide   it   as   lips   part   and   speak   in   a   most   wounded   and   exhausted   tone.   The   tone   of   a   soldier   still   holding   their   weapons,   their   guard,   in   spite   of   their   injuries,   and   their   exhaustion. 

“   I   wouldn’t   know   how   to   even   start   letting   it   all   go   I   .      .      .   I’m   just   .      .      .   scared   that   if   I   say   it   all   out   loud,   it’ll   make   it   all   real.   ”

TEETH. JEWELLERY.

The   GV600   was   top   of   the   line.   As   a   swat   squat   assistant   he   was   able   to   imprint   on   the   individuals   in   his   squadron,   his   team,   making   him   a   fiercely   loyal   ally   at   the   time.   Until   a   rather   nasty   incident   had   damaged   him   and   he’d   been   demoted   to   the   DPD.   He   tried   to   act   as   though   the   process   itself   wasn’t   demeaning,   tried   to   ignore   the   visions   and   reminders   of   all   he’d   lost   in   that   operation.   Lost   teammates,   almost   lost   Captain   Allen,   though   he   might   as   well   have   by   the   way   he   looked   at   him,   the   only   surviving   man   through   it   all   --   and   he   looked   at   Gavin   with   such   disgust.   And   it’s   logged   there   in   his   memory,   burned   into   his   mind   forever.

Yes,   the   GV600   was   a   force   of   nature   on   duty,   and   even   while   in   stasis   he   proved   to   be   marginally   intimidating   .      .      .         Which   is   perhaps   what   made   his   rather   gentle   curiosity   so   surprising.   Endearing,   perhaps,   depending   on   who   you’d   ask.   The   way   he   cautiously   reaches   out   to   brush   gloved   fingertips   lightly   o’er   large   antiques   with   such   tenderness,   a   flicker   of   humanity   in   the   dark   ‘fore   dark   eyes   are   turned   downwards   at   the   light   brushing   of   a   creature   by   his   legs.   Head   cocked,   he   doesn’t   think   to   look   around   for   the   detective   he   was   waiting   for   and   instead   decides   to   kneel   down   and   place   an   open   palm   out   for   the   creature   to   bump   into.   Certainly,   he   was   meant   to   be   intimidating,   by   the   design   of   his   rugged   look   and   default   expression   being   a   twinge   more   aggressive   than   the   droids   at   the   DPD   normally.   But   right   now   it   seemed   he   was   anything   but,   right   now   he   almost   seemed   like   a   person.   Speaking   wasn’t   a   large   part   of   what   he   was   meant   to   do,   normally   he   had   no   reason   to,   and   yet   he’s   found   himself   talking   far   more   since   he’s   been   assigned   to   work   with   the   detective.   Carefully,   in   a   low   tone,   he   pipes   up,   breaking   the   silence   he   found   himself   so   normally   comforted   by.

And   what   an   odd   way   to   feel ,   about   a   thing   he   used   to   despite   --   something   he   didn’t   understand,   a   tool   he   felt   threatened   by.   Angry   wasn’t   the   right   word   to   describe   what   he   felt,   no   it   was   full   venom   and   vitriol.   All   mistrust   and   hatred   watered   down   and   mellowed   out   with   quiet   moments   alone   spent   brawling,   but   then   the   brawling   turned   to   something   more   hungry,   intimate   little   runs   ins,   events   so   heavily   fuelled   by   sexual   tension.   Biting   and   blood   runs,   both   blue   and   red,   staining   hands   and   shirts,   discarded   carelessly   while   exploring   each   other   with   reckless   abandon.   How   did   something   so   comfortable,   familiar   and   violent,   turn   into   something   as   frightening   as   this?   Something   gentle   and   careful,   softly   prodding   and   trotting   around   each   other's   old   wounds.   Before,   Gavin   wanted   to   break   him   down,   rip   him   apart,   show   him   his   place   and   how   fragile   he   was   --   how   strong   a   human   could   be,   the   only   authentic   life   there   was   and   it   could   only   bleed   red.   But   he   was   wrong,   now   he   couldn’t   dare   to   believe   something   as   asinine   as   that   and   it   startled   him.   So   what   did   it   all   mean?   Reed   always   had   a   bad   habit   of   reading   too   much   into   everything,   it’s   what   made   him   a   great   detective   but   it   also   tended   to   get   in   the   way.   Now   here   he   is,   so   worried   about   what   the   world   might   think,   what   coworkers   might   say,   but   more   than   anything   he   was   scared   of   himself,   of   what   it   would   mean   if   he   did   accept   this,   of   what   would   happen   next   if   he   gave   into   this   feeling   fully.   If   he   were   to   admit   and   take   his   offer   so   blindly   trusting   in   something   as   good   as   this.   Because   anything   this   good   simply   couldn’t   be   true,   could   last   and   even   if   it   did   surely   he   didn’t   deserve   it.   For   there   was   no   poison   quite   like   the   vitriol   the   detective   kept   held   in   his   body,   in   his   heart,   such   a   weary   and   corroded   container   for   all   the   damage   he’d   ne’er   wept   for.   All   the   childhood   lost   and   the   youth   wasted,   childlike   wonder   stolen   away   before   it   could   be   explored.   And   people   wondered   how   he   could   be   so   cruel,   but   wouldn’t   they   be   if   they   saw,   heard,   felt,   survived   what   he   did.   But   perhaps,   just   this   once,   this   feeling   could   last.   Something   in   him   cries   out   for   it   to   be   true   so   silently,   almost   pained   disbelief,   a   glimmer   in   his   eyes   and   says   :   i   want   to   believe   you.   The   look   of   an   animal   burned   so   many   times   by   opening   himself   up,   who   had   self-sabotaged   like   his   life   depended   on   it,   and   by   God   did   it   feel   like   it   did   sometimes.   Eyes,   darkened   and   misty   missing   their   usual   venom   and   focus,   a   tender   expression         --         (   and   it   was   odd   how   with   the   slightest   change   of   features   how   gentle   he   could   look,   how   tender   he   seemed   when   he   ducks   away   and   brushes   thumb   o’er   lips   that   still   sang   with   the   taste   of   the   man   before   him.   ) 

“  You   don’t   know   what   you’re   saying.   You   don’t   want   that.   It’s   not   --   I’m   not   built   for   that--  ”    

Built   for   it.   A   creature   of   flesh   and   bone   denying   such   an   innate   need,   something   deep-rooted,   it   was   almost   laughable.   A   need   for   that   good   kind   of   love   but   having   believed   he   was   never   meant   for   something   so   kind.   It   was   the   closest   to   any   sort   of   divinity   he’d   beheld   surely,   and   the   closest   he’d   ever   get   if   such   a   place   did   exist.   But   no,   no   surely   he   insists   he   wasn’t   built   for   it,   because   all   people   were   simply   constructed   with   things   and   purposes   they’d   never   reach   and   being   loved,   kept   safe,   for   someone   to   see   past   the   jaded   behavior   and   reach   deeper,   that   was   his.   His   yearning   needs   he’d   surely   never   reach   because   he   wasn’t   built   for   it.    Sudden   somber   feeling   overtakes   him   and   the   focus   returns   to   his   eyes,   paired   with   a   strained,   flickering   sort   of   hopefulness   as   he   searches   the   android’s   face   for   the   answer   to   a   question   he   has   yet   to   ask.   Lips   part   slowly   as   hand   clasps   softly,   hesitantly,   o’er   Connor’s   own. 

“  Are   you   sure?  ”

fever in her bones,       heat   consumed   her.   heavy gas in her lungs,  body elated and incandescent.   insensate with longing,   bloated tongue.   raw,  like melted fat.   he   is a means to an end,  a mere   passing.   another name,  another face,   another  victim.   all longing between her stomach and throat.   another   weak  man.

❛❛   terribly  sorry!   ❜❜     as she tears into him.   coagulated blood marred her flesh,  scent dug in and echoes of rushed hearts dominating her.   exposed insisors piercing into the jugular,  severing and all but dying black hair merlot.   nails raised,  extended and jointed from the bone,  piercing and prying open flesh;   gouging out holes.   scraping back skin,  open grazes and raw blistered wounds.     (   what  horrible  haven’t  i  done?   i’m  irredeemable.   )     it stopped being   justice   along time ago.   it’s the one with teeth in his shoulder,   limb  from  limb.   copper take on broken shins,  sadistically decomposing in her own meconium.   fucking  rotten,   like acid patterning skin.   now cadaver,  fingers   pressed   deep in his throat,  an end to screaming.     (   stupid  omnivore.   )

              “Would you like me to HANDLE this case, Connor?” The suspect had been shouting ‘Deviant Hunter’ at them since he’d been booked and placed in the holding cell. RK900 could see that it was affecting Connor.
