If I could have Sarah Jane listen to a song it would be “My  Skin” by Lizzo. Lizzo is an artist who is all about spreading positivity and expressing the seriousness of self-love. Sarah Jane struggled with loving herself and accepting her truth. She pretended to be white to feel accepted and in return lost herself and her roots. The hook of Lizzo’s song says “I woke up in this, I woke up in this // In my skin // I can't wash it away, so you can't take it from me // My brown skin”. These are words that every young girl that feels the way Sarah Jane did should hear. She needed to learn to love her skin and accept herself. Her insecurities held her back from living and forced her to live a tense and uncomfortable life because she was never being true to herself or the people that she surrounded herself with. Sarah Jane was so caught up trying to live a double life that she did not realize the damage she was doing to her own mother. Her mother because she felt like she was not enough and could not provide enough for her daughter.
