This morning, I joined my community and fire departments from nearby counties in a 110 story 9/11 memorial climb. At check-in, we were given the names of firefighters and first responders who lost their lives. I was able to carry ten men with me--ten heroes--for all 110 stories.
It wasn’t an easy feat and those last rounds were slow-going, but every step was worth it.
It was a beautiful, somber way to honor them, but I’m glad there was joy and camaraderie there, too. I like to think that between those 200 people coming together to climb and praying together, that those lost felt the outpouring of love and gratitude. We won’t forget, but I don’t think they’d want their memory to be shrouded in bleakness.
We climbed, wore ourselves out, and had fun.
It was an honor.

Today always serves as a reminder of how fragile life can be, and how the heart and resilience of good people--of heroes--lives on. Hold your loved ones close and never take a second of your time with them for granted.
All my love,
Blades

As news of the events unfolding at home in New York began to make its way to the dancers of the New York City Ballet, the sense of fear and loss became more and more overwhelming, and Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins ultimately decided to cancel the evening's performance...”
