Love.  The cannibal did have a love for many things.  Things of beauty he saw in the world;The culinary arts , The gruesome glamour of a well done crime scene , A performance from a fantastic artist. Those were many things he did take a deep enjoyment of. But when it came to the true definition of love, There was only one person alive he knew well that he had a sense of love for. His remarkable boy, Will Graham. 

There have been many people he pulls into his game, And manipulates them to do what he wants;Moving all of the puzzle pieces to destroy them right into place. Yet there were none like his empath. He was a unique specimen to pull in as a player in his game. Will Graham was sharp, But unstable. Perfect for the monster that is Doctor Hannibal Lecter to mold him into just the way he felt was right. He did love him, And he still does. The psychiatrist merely isn’t the best with showing his care of others.

Hannibal takes those he cares for and makes them into the masterpiece he views them as. Such as Abigail Hobbs, The girl he took , A comparison to his diamond girl;And he killed her. He tethered her along to make her think that he was completely and utterly a father to her before he tricked her. It was how it had to go , In the end. Nonetheless, His remarkable boy was still different. They did have similar views;He viewed his own mentality as grotesque but useful, like a chair made of antlers. This was one factor that had Doctor Hannibal Lecter truly in love with the empath. 

He treats Graham as his dearest puppet, If one would say. He was the puppeteer to move his remarkable boy along in the direction he found best for him, And in the eyes of Doctor Lecter , He brings out his true potential as an empath. It is found to be an act of care, Of love, From him. Will Graham is not a very healthy man;This is something the cannibal noticed. And he wanted to ensure that he could cure that, Although , He does end up making things worse in the eyes of others when it  came to the methods he used;Inducing seizures upon his remarkable boy, Pushing him farther into instability—-And eventually framing him for four murders.
